Started with mead.. ended with wine!

So I wanted to make a simple grape mead with the following ingredients: 2 cans welch's grape concentrate 1.5lb honey Lalvin EC1118 yeast nutrient water to fill to 1.5" headspace 3 weeks later, BLaMMo! Wine, a little bubbly, dry, but sweet at the same time. It's rough, no question...

    new to brew

Thank you for your service, first off. It's because of sacrifices made from those defending our freedoms that we are allowed to brew beer... in an off-hand sort of way. :) You've definitely come to the right place. I'm faily new to brewing too, but have learned a lot from the people on the...

I've seen the special lids for the cornies, but wondered about the trub that settles during fermentation. Doesn't that clog the export/out pipe inside and make it difficult to get a "clear beer"? I see what remains in the primary bucket... how is the flavor? Do you have to toss the first 3-4...

    Not my first rodeo

I hear you! And now, MI is also a no helmet required state! Can't say I think that's a good idea, but most of us are grown up enough to make our own decisions and hopefully live with the consequences. :off: Anyhow, looking forward to hearing of your brewing adventures too!

I read somewhere that adding LME after the boil increases the alcohol content by creating a higher spec grav. You can also add lactose if you want a creamier beer and maintain the sweet side since lactose is nonfermentable. Even so, estimated abv is about 4.5-5%. Nope, skinned the kiwis...

Well, I am, and will always be, a stout/porter man, but someone asked me to brew this for them, and I did! It's my first true experiment with a thrown together list of ingredients. Estimated alcohol content is an acceptable 4.5%. The strawberry is a poor choice of fruits since the flavor is...

It was actually a very simple recipe: 6lbs LME wheat 3lbs LME (after boil) 4lbs strawberries (smooshed) 3lbs kiwi (smooshed) 1oz tettnang (bittering to off set the sweet from the fruit) 60min boil 4oz strawberry extract added to secondary (strawberry is a poor fruit choice, but sounds...

Hi from a tiny apartment in Greenwich Village

I think it's pretty awesome you have accomplished what you have with the minimal setup. The 3 gallon carboy, in all honesty, doesn't take up a whole lot more room than the 5 gallon. All grain brewing is something I want to experiment with at some point, since I'm an extract guy. Do you...

    Hello all.

==snip== I like to make mead, and have done several batches, several types of fruit, basic must, easy peasy. Look up a recipe called Joe's Ancient Orange Mead online. Very simple to make, and done in about 2 months. I have a batch that's nearly complete. Brewing beer is easy too...

    Hi and thanks

Awesome! I eventually want to do an all grain! I've done almost primarily extract and partial grain brews, and have been happy with the result, but you always wonder what more you can do. Welcome to the forums!
