    Conan Yeast Experiences

Wow, that would make sense. After mine stalled I added some of the BSG Handcraft (fka Crosby & Baker) Amalyse Enzyme, pitched some more Conan slurry that I held back from a starter, and got it down to 1.012. If you have access to the enzyme, it's pretty cheap and seemed to do the trick. I...

    Conan Yeast Experiences

I don't want pass judgement where it isn't warranted, but this seems to be a trend based in other responses to this thread re: ECY 29. Starting to feel like it might be one of the older generations that people have mentioned doesn't attenuate as well.

    Keggle - A Wider Hole?

SoCal, So to clarify, you cut that keggle down flush to the outside wall with an angle grinder? Was it difficult getting it that precise? Any special technique you used or was it pretty straightforward? I honestly haven't seen a picture of a modified keggle where the top was cut down that...

    Conan Yeast Experiences

I had been wondering if anyone else had any experience with the ECY 29 version. I brewed up a 1.071 Rye DIPA mashed around 148, which had 1lb of honey and 1/4lb of dextrose, and pitched an active starter of ECY 29. Krausen was forming within 10 hours, peaked the next day and had mostly dropped...

    Founders All Day IPA

In my book, Citra belongs between 15 mins left in the boil and flameout, or as a dry hop. Citra is loaded with oil, and most of that is Myrcene, which boils off above 150, so I tend to use it at either flameout or in the dry hop. I think you'd be fine either way, but if there is one thing I've...

    Founders All Day IPA

I agree on keeping the Citra light. My house session IPA uses Citra/Simcoe/Amarillo, and I've always thought it was similar to All Day, but the Citra in my beer really stands out, whereas I honestly have never tasted an All Day and really picked out the Citra in it.

    Founders All Day IPA

I'm a little late to the game, but I just came across this link that says the early version of this recipe (called Endurance Ale back then) has Citra. I think that hop had been ruled out several posts back...

Specialty IPA: Black IPA Manden Med Leen Belgian Black IPA

Manden Med Leen Belgian Black Rye IPA This beer was my entry into the 2012 Bell’s Brewery Homebrewing Competition, and ended up taking first place out of 126 entries. I was lucky enough to help make 10 barrels of this at Bell’s, and it was on tap at their brewpub in Kalamazoo, MI for about 2...

American Lager 2013 NHC Bronze Medal Winner: Classic American Pilsner

I'm intrigued at your use of Aromatic Malt. I was planning on layering in some Light Munich, but that's like a 7L malt vs 20L-ish for Aromatic. How apparent is it at 6%? Clearly it must work pretty well as your medal suggests!

American Lager 2013 NHC Bronze Medal Winner: Classic American Pilsner

Awesome, I think I'm going to go with the Superior Pils malt for my next version. I see you also use the 833 Bock yeast. I made a German Pils with it once that I thought didn't really nail the style, but it seems to work well in a CAP. Your water looks similar to what I used. I might hold off...

American Lager 2013 NHC Bronze Medal Winner: Classic American Pilsner

Congrats on your medal, that's a really huge accomplishment. I had a couple of questions I'm hoping you can provide your thoughts on. 1) What kind of water profile do you favor for your CAP? 2) Your recipe says Canadian Pilsner malt. Is this the Canada Malting Superior Pils malt? I just made...

    Fruit Beer Watermelon Wheat

Racked onto 8 cups of juice today, though I yielded almost 1 gallon from the watermelon I used. Even had an extra gallon of beer left, so I racked it on 1/2 a tube of pineapple juice concentrate. I'm sure this is highly variable, but my juice had an OG of 1.035, really sweet stuff, also makes...

Dual 2000W 120V Recirculating eBIAB Build

Since you used a standard two plug receptacle for plugging the elements into, I assume you broke the hot bridge, then ran two hot wires in (one from each contactor), two neutrals (again, one from each contactor) and only one ground. Would that be correct?

Dual 2000W 120V Recirculating eBIAB Build

This thread is exactly what I needed to convince myself I am going electric. I wanted a solution that was compact, could be used in a kitchen, and run off the current circuitry in my house (i.e. 120v/20A circuits). Russki, your build is darn near exactly what I think I'm going to put together...

Oberon Yeast Harvesting – Multiple Bottle Dregs?

I might be stating the obvious here, but after asking one of the Bell's brewers this winter what beer would be best for yeast harvesting, he said that freshness is far more important that which beer you choose. I used a 6 pack of Oberon purchased on opening day (March 25th) that was bottled 14...

    iBrewmaster2

This is in no way personal, as I'm not interested in getting into the pros and cons of how to do business in the App Store, the philosophy of paying for upgrades in apps, etc etc. This is really about whether buying iBM2 provides enough new content and added value to convince me, a very happy...

    Fruit Beer Watermelon Wheat

I'm gonna take a shot at this in a couple weeks, with the 8 cups of juice, no extract method, since I can always add that to the keg if needed. Two questions that I didn't find an answer to in the thread thus far (that or I missed them). 1. Have people been using a 90 minute boil? I've...

    iBrewmaster2

FWIW, I found this app called BrixCalc a couple days ago for refractometer readings. It's really nicely done and offers a lot of options for how to measure and convert your readings. This would have been one of the main sells for me with iBM2 had they gotten it right. Andy, the developer for...

    iBrewmaster2

Haha, now I'm back on the fence. I think this does prove that Joe at iBM really needs to show potential buyers how these new features work, instead of just putting them in a bullet list. I still think it's a risk to purchase, but if some of these tweaks are made it really does seem like an...

    iBrewmaster2

Awesome, thanks for doing that! You just made my mind up that I will not be upgrading at this time. If the yeast pitching calc is lacking as you say, that would be in addition to a refractometer calc that I don't think will be accurate (no correction factor) and a water profile module that...
