    Does Whirlpooling Inject Enough Oxygen

I just got a new system up and running and now have the ability to whirlpool using a tangential inlet and a pump. I am doing 10-15 gallon batches. I have never whirlpooled before so I was just wanting a few pieces of advice. First, I am using a plate chiller, and since I started using it and...

Autumn Seasonal Beer Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale (AG and Extract versions)

Cool, good to know. I did use S-04 but it was my first time. I actually rarely use dry yeast at all. I have just never seen yeast fall out in 2 days. I suppose then I will just check the grav in a couple of days and see if it's dropping. If not, dump another pack on it.

Autumn Seasonal Beer Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale (AG and Extract versions)

Seems odd to have the kraussen drop after only 2 days. Anyone else had this happen?

Autumn Seasonal Beer Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale (AG and Extract versions)

I brewed this on Saturday and all smelled and tasted delicious. Unfortunately this photo is what it looks like today.....Infected y'all think?? Or should I just pitch another sachet of yeast? Untitled by carlspurgeon, on Flickr

Saison How Rye I Am (Rye Saison) - 2011 - 1st Place Best of Show - HBT Comp

There are different schools of thought on when to add sugars. Some do it late in the boil, some at high krausen and some after the krausen drops. The theory behind adding during fermentation is that it stresses the yeast less because it has already chewed through the maltose and multiplied, so...

    Summer Cucumber Brew

I added the cukes to secondary. I just peeled them and cut them up with sanitized knife and cutting board. I let them sit for prolly 10 days and racked to keg. Fabulous!

Saison How Rye I Am (Rye Saison) - 2011 - 1st Place Best of Show - HBT Comp

I am brewing this right now. I don't have any dark candi sugar and the LHBS doesn't open for a couple of hours. I was thinking of subbing in molasses. What do ye think?

Wyeast 2206 Bavarian Lager - Slow Starter?

There's definitely different opinions about this. What I did was racked into a corney after primary was done. I then just let it sit for a couple of months and tapped it. The first half pint or so was mucky but it ran clear after that. My corney has an airlock but I doubt that is necessary...

Wyeast 2206 Bavarian Lager - Slow Starter?

LOL....No, I posted this to the wrong thread. The beer you see a few posts back is a Trad Bock and it is actually still in PRIMARY :o. That was my second round with 2206. The Maibock was my first time using 2206 and my first lager. I brewed it April 1st and it's been lagering for a couple of...

Lagers: After D Rest, How Long Can I Leave Warm

Ha, this is very true! It takes long enough to get these buggers done. My mission is to get 4 done at a time and then use my ferm chamber to bulk lager all of them. It will hold 4 cornies. I will stick them in the kegerator at 38 deg until I have 4 ready for the lagering chamber (formerly known...

Lagers: After D Rest, How Long Can I Leave Warm

So, I've been doing several lagers lately, and after pulling them out of the ferm chamber at 70% attenuated, I have been letting them sit for a while at 66 degrees. This system works well for me as I can move new lagers into the chamber to ferment while the first ones are doing their D rest. My...

    Ahhh glorious brewday. Nelson IPA

Count me in. I unexpectedly got today and tomorrow off to make for an uber long weekend. I did a double decocted Roggenbier in the hot Montana sun. Tomorrow is Vienna lager day. More decoctions! Getting kinda tired actually. Ready to have an easy brew day...:p I am almost done with my lagers...

    making a Lime Brew.

I do a Ginger Lime Saison that is fabulous. I don't use nearly that much zest and no peel whatsover. IIRC it was 5 Kaffir Lime leaves and zest from half a lime, all in the boil. I also find that when zesting, try to avoid as much of the white as you can. It is the bitter part. The Saison...

Wyeast 2206 Bavarian Lager - Slow Starter?

Gave this yeast another crack. I made a 3 liter starter and pitched at 55 degrees. It started bubbling the airlock in ~8hrs so I stuck it in the ferm chamber. 12 hours from pitch and this is how she looks--> Not too shabby!!
