Post Harvest Centennials in a Barrel

Hi everyone, Recently harvested my centennial plants growing in a barrel on my deck. 1st year plants (from crowns) and got a decent yield. My wife really likes the look of the plants as decoration so I left them up and only plucked the hop cones. Hops came out great, yielded about a...

    Spunding Valve Newbie Question

Did you ever figure this out? I'm experiencing the exact same thing, I also suspect that fermentation just completed/any remaining yeast went dormant after the transfer. I've followed the same steps adding more co2 the following day but again it just either absorbs into the beer or dissipates...

    Step Mash for Double/Imperial IPA

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Did some further research and yeah, makes sense, I shouldn't be step mashing for a double IPA... Updating my mash profile in beersmith as we speak!

    Step Mash for Double/Imperial IPA

How much percentage wise would you say for carapils, I currently have it at about 5% to aid in head retention...

    Step Mash for Double/Imperial IPA

Hey everyone, I am trying to nail down my step mash process - especially in Beersmith to nail my volumes per step and temp - long story short, I have gone down a rabbit hole reading about step mashing and where its applicable and best practices etc. Would like to hear other's...

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

How soon do you plan to transfer? I believe the recipe actually calls for the first round of dry hopping within three days left of active fermentation (Matt from FW is an advocate of this as he thinks it yields better aromas). It actually helps because the hops will introduce a little bit of...

    10 year old hop bines

I thought about just bringing them in my garage - not heard but would be somewhat shielded from the extreme cold temperatures

    10 year old hop bines

What do you do in the winter with the barrels? I'm in upstate ny and the winters here are harsh, I heard I have to be concerned with the extreme cold killing the root.

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

I think it's important for this brew to help you hit your target sg... Uses a lot of malt but also a ton of water so in the event you thin the mash, that extra half hour really helps out.

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

It sure is! And that's great news considering the beer has been retired by FW

Apartment/Container Growing on the back deck...

I got some crowns this year that I'm planning on putting in barrels... Any issues I should be concerned with long-term? I'm hoping to have them wrap around our metal gazebo (one of those from Lowe's - the cover and tarp walls shredded last year so I'm thinking of having hop plants wrap around...

    WTB: Stainless Sink + Hood

I am reading that if you have a powerful enough hood, you are covered, similar to a commercial restaurant. But that being said, I agree, and I worry about the make up and pulling co out of my furnace and Hot water tank

    WTB: Stainless Sink + Hood

Fantastic, thank you for the suggestions... My first goal is to get the hood and sink installed. Then from there, still deciding if I want to go electric or gas... My friend's say a gas install is definitely cheaper but I'm concerned about ventilation

    WTB: Stainless Sink + Hood

Excellent, that one looks great and kinda what I assumed the cost would be... what about for a pre-rinse/spray hose for it? I'm seeing those going for approximately $150 or up...

    WTB: Stainless Sink + Hood

Hello, Starting the beginning phases of my basement brewery and I am looking for a Stainless Sink (1 bay) - 24" x 24" with pre-rinse spray nozzle. I am also looking for a Stainless hood - approximately 4 feet deep by 6 feet long. Anyone has any ideas where to purchase these please let...

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

I think is quite close to the byo recipe but if not, I'd go with that one. Either way, the recipe here is spot on and delicious. FW said they just want to start experimenting more and unfortunately this one got cut. There's some speculation that this is going go come back as a limited release...

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

Definitely is... And Firestone is retiring the beer too so makes this recipe even more important to have around! This is typically my winter beer... Time permitting I brew it every year.

10 Tips To Optimize Dry Hop Aroma

Great article indeed. One question for all of you whirlpoolers that this article doesn't touch - what temperature are you whirlpooling at? For those of you who primarily do this... I've always tried to get down to about 180 and then whirlpool for about 20 minutes... after reading some of your...
