What I did for beer today

Made my first brew ever today! Everything went about as smooth as it could, all of the numbers and measurements worked out well, and the yeast is already doing its thing (I think). It appears that I may have happened into an extra plastic Ale Pail by way of a packaging mistake, as my kit came...

How many gallons of Homebrew in 2012?

5gal APA, actually my first brew ever! Total number = 6714

    Up to the yeast now!

I know that it's not a "fermentation indicator", but my airlock is showing signs of pressure building in the bucket. I'm just gonna assume that it's a good thing. Has anyone actually found the stick on thermometers for the buckets useful? Mine isn't showing anything. I'm in a situation where...

    Up to the yeast now!

The temps will end up being under 70. I'm fermenting in my basement, probably stays closer to 55-60 down there. I didn't realize that 72* may be a couple of degrees warm when I pitched.

    Up to the yeast now!

Since everyone seems to make a post of this nature, I will follow suit. Just finished up my first batch. American Pale Ale Extract Kit from Brewer's Best. It's sitting in the primary now. I decided to pitch the Nottingham yeast dry into the bucket, just to keep it simple for this first brew...

    Bottling Bucket Woes

Wanted to put some closure to this. I contact Bell's General Store (where I purchased the kit) because my airlock had a hairline crack in it. They are gonna send me a bottling bucket and airlock, and I get to keep the extra bucket. They told me they had taken some buckets out of kits because of...

    Bottling Bucket Woes

So I ordered my first equipment kit, a Basic Brewer's Best kit. This is supposed to come with a bottling bucket, obviously. However, it appears it has arrived with two primary fermenting buckets. Neither bucket has a hole in them. Should I try to drill this hole out, or should I sit tight to see...

    Another new guy

I purchased the Brewer's Best Basic Equipment Kit, and it comes with a no-rinse sanitizer. I'm assuming that this will work for sanitizing my instruments. Any inputs on extract kits is appreciated. I'm already considering what I should make for my second batch. I've been into IPA's lately...

    Another new guy

Hey all, I just ordered my equipment a couple of hours ago. I've been contemplating getting into home brewing for a while, so I've done some reading. Going to be making an American Pale Ale from an extract kit for my first batch. I'm hoping it all comes by Thursday or so, so I can get this going...
