    Grain mill stopped working

My Barley Crusher lasted 5 years. Then, like others have described it died. The rollers seem to be made of soft metal. Retired the old girl and bought a Monster. Hated shelling out the cash, but I can't say I regret it one bit.

    Question about yeast starter’s?

Wow, apparently I go way too long. If I'm brewing on Saturday, I get it started on Wednesday night. Take off and put the flask in the fridge Friday night. Take out Saturday morning and decant then let warm up. So, I guess technically I'm in the 48 hour club.

    lessons learned after 10 batches

100s batches: 1. Yes refactometers are awesome. But you still need a hydrometer for getting your FG 2. Blow off tube every time (But I use a size that fits in my carboy and I clean it everytime) 3. Adjust your recipe to account for the 60% efficiency. I never use DME. Use more grain 4...

brew pump - 10 gal keggle

My March pump finally gave up the fort this spring. I replaced it with a Blichmann Riptide. Was pricey, but so far seems to be a much better quality than any pump I've used in the past.

    Making Starter with Older DME?

Like Jim said, if it looks normal...use it. For a starter, the yeast don't care.

    Kegging warm

Clear beer and it's easier for me.

    Kegging warm

I carb all my beers warm so I just have to put in the keggerator when a spot opens up. Just use one of the carbing charts on line to compensate for the higher temperature. In other words, you'll have to crank the regulator up about 20 most likely. Cheers!

    Blichmann BeerGun V2 Cleaning

I usually disassemble mine and rinse immediately after using. Of course I sanitize with StarSan before using again. No need to over think it.

best way to transport beer on airplane

I wrap in socks and make sure the bottles are not touching and in the middle of the checked luggage. Haven't had a problem yet....knock on wood

Any ideas why my mash efficiency was so low?

I typically get a lower conversion with ryes and wheats. I compensate by guestimating some extra when I mash. Nothing scientific, just experience with my system.

    Getting too comfortable brewing!!

Brew day is just another day anymore. After 10+ years and 100+ of brews on my system....it's a breeze.

Safale US-04 yeast = funky flavor?

Still the same for me as it was back then. I don't use any English yeast in my brews, since I'll just throw them out. 95% of my beers are with 05. I just modify the mash temp to get the body I want.
