    Recipe advice

Thanks for all the quick replies! I'll try to mess with it a bit and drop the crystal. The original recipe I based it off of was 7.5 lb 2 row and 1.5 lb crystal. The abv was too low for me so I upped the 2 row and added the carapils. @schatzke- yes it's a 5 gal batch

Irish Red Ale Raging Red Irish Red Ale

Followed my normal procedures. Pouring the wort back and forth between kettle and bucket several times and through a strainer. Pitched the entire packet of yeast, like I always do. The only thing I can think is that it was having a hard time with the honey. Never used it before and have read...

Irish Red Ale Raging Red Irish Red Ale

Made this just over 2 weeks ago. My OG was 1.056, a little lower than expected and as of today I am reading 1.019...a little higher than expected. I used crystal 150 instead of cararoma and carapils instead of carafoam and I used BRY 97 yeast. Kept my fermenter at 68* the whole 16 days. Should...

    amber

I made it a bit hoppier than most ambers to mimic a lot of the ambers I loved while living in the Seattle area. I like the extra bite. I've just started reading about Maris otter. Apparently it's just a different kind of 2row? Earthier? I might give that a try. Any other suggestions? Would...

    amber

Hello, I have a real basic amber recipe that I found on here a couple years ago. I like it but would like to tweek it slightly. I really dont know too much about what grain tastes like what, except the obvious ones. My goal is to keep the IBU's and ABV where they are but get a bit more malty...

    Adding juice/ sugar later

I have a batch of cider that has been fermenting in the primary for about 2.5 weeks. It was just straight juice, I didn't add any sugar. Is there any reason I can't add some more juice and sugar to it now?

    granny smith tincture?

So, I've been looking around the forum but haven't seen anyone trying this. I'm thinking of making a tincture with a couple spices and some cut up granny Smith's and everclear to add to my cider while bottling. Do you think it will pull flavor from the GS? Do you see any potential issues?

    DIY Interwoven "Rib-Cage" Immersion Chiller

    pre chiller

I plan on making my own immersion chiller this week. The need has arisen since I have moved from Seattle to SoCal and the water temperature from my hose is consistently about 80*. ( I used to just do an ice bath and chill my wort in under 30 minutes) The question is, can I just coil up my...

    plug dropped into carboy

Yes, it has already been fermenting for 2 weeks. And yes the plug was bought from the LHBS. I just worry about a weird rubber taste leaching in.

    plug dropped into carboy

So, I was taking a sample from my carboy and had my airlock and plug in the sanitizer bucket. I also had a couple other plugs in the bucket. Without thinking, after taking the sample, I reached into the bucket grabbed a plug and pushed it into the top of the carboy. It fit ok, but when I went...

    STC 1000 problems

Ya. I can handle building, and most mechanical work but electrical always confuses me. Although the diagram I posted is for hardwiring, I just put the wires "to fridge" over to an outlet.
