    Burner to kettle distance

Trial & error. I am using the KAB6 with a keggle and it was taking forever to heat up. I searched this site and they suggested moving the burner up 2". This makes the distance from the fame to the bottom of the keggle approx 2.5". Since I just got a welder from my uncle, my dad and I had to...

Has anyone use the Brewers Edge Kettle Screen in a mash tun?

Should be ok. The grains are bigger than the pellet hop residue. I made one from a SS washing machine hose for my MLT. More or less just so that I said I could do it. That works fine. I wouldn't hesitate to use the Kettle Screen in my MLT.

Has anyone use the Brewers Edge Kettle Screen in a mash tun?

I use one on my brew pot. Gets clogged up when using hop pellets, but otherwise works great.

How to plug in my Ranco one stage???

You can always give it a sex change operation yourself. Hack off the male end and put on a female. You can get the "girl parts" at any hardware store. May be cheaper and quicker than sending it back.

Recycling Yeast: Is it Worth It?

If you're not sure if washed yeast is viable, make a starter. I've never had a problem. You should be doing a starter for a smack pack anyway (or so I've been told). Also if you can get 3-4 jars of yeast, and you have a buddy or two doing the same thing, why not trade and expand your yeast...

    Ferment Stopped- HELP!

Still a noob and have similar problem right now. Can you just stir gently with a sanitized spoon being careful not to mix in too much air, but just rouse the yeasties? I've got a big fat yeast cake sitting there taking a nap.

    Beginner Kit

Northern Brewer has some good kits as well and so does Midwest. I've gotten kits from them both. I've never used them but a lot of people here talk about Austin Homebrew.

If you could have any object turned into a tap handle, what would it be?

Screw all the dildo talk, give me some ****ies!! The bust of a busty woman. Although SWMBO might not like it too much and my sons would like it too much.

    Irish moss or not

I asked the question at our last homebrew club meeting. They said that adding to even extracts wont do any harm. But Palmer does mention that that it does affect head retention as previously mentioned. Don't know for sure as I've used it all my beers. But then again I've yet to have good...

    Lager process question

just reading through real quick (on the bosses dime) but did anybody mention using a swamp cooler? I've used one in the past when i wanted to do a lager and didn't have a dedicated fridge. Worked well to keep it at the right temp. also make sure to check the recommed temp for the yeast...

    Clean/sanitize with limited space

bottle tree and vinator for the bottles. You can also keep any small items that need to be sanitized in the vinator, bottle caps, airlocks etc. save some space and easier than diging in the big tub to find when you need them.

First AG is done! Went well but I have a few questions.

Following Bernie Brewer's sticky i was able to split it into 3 parts. Figure if I don't use them timely no big deal. They will last a while. I saw someone here say they exchange them at their local homebrew club meetings. I'll have to mention that at our next meeting. That would be a great...

First AG is done! Went well but I have a few questions.

Golddiggie - Actually I washed some yeast from a kit I did with my father-in-law and am using that for my next batch this Sat. A nice simple bock. He had tons of cigar boxes so I made a stir plate. Got the starter going already. When does a hoby become an obsession?

First AG is done! Went well but I have a few questions.

No problem, I'd rather go over the projected OG than be too low. I was just more curious if there is a big difference between pre-boil SG and post-boil. I guess it makes sense that it depends on the pre-boil volume and how much boil off there is. So I assume there is really no general rule or...

First AG is done! Went well but I have a few questions.

For my first AG it actually went pretty quick. 4 hrs from start to finish with a little help from a brew buddy. It also helps when SWMBO and kids are gone for the day. Got my next one planned for this weekend. Hopefully this one will be sans kids also.
