Purging keg with ferm CO2 anvil bucket

I have found it is much easier to replace that silicone gasket when wet. So now I starsan the lid and gasket and then put it back on right before use.

WTF is that? Gelatin finings issue or ?

Interesting. I had been looking for some information about this as sometimes it works better than others for me. It does say you can heat to higher temps but only for a short period. Sometimes I heat and pitch immediately and sometimes it sits for a bit. Wonder if this is the difference.

Purging keg with ferm CO2 anvil bucket

I have a bunch of those anvil buckets. They are very iffy for holding any pressure. It depends how well the silicone ring is on and how tight your hooks are.

5 kegs and 2 fermenters to clean.

How many Tbsp PBW per gallon do you use?

5 kegs and 2 fermenters to clean.

I can see that being more work than it’s worth. Maybe for times like this when I have many to do but otherwise set up and clean up is probably harder than cleaning the keg.

5 kegs and 2 fermenters to clean.

Yea I’ve done that, but my experience is PBW needs a little time to do it’s magic. Maybe I just need to build a keg shaker! Ooo, on to something here. Like those paint shakers at the paint store.

5 kegs and 2 fermenters to clean.

As the title says. Don’t want to but has to be done. (: what’s the easiest way. All need a full pbw clean but not looking to make up 35 gallons Of the stuff. I have tried transferring in the past but pbw gets too cool too fast. Find me a better way!

    I Am NOT a Fan Of Star-San

I honestly wouldn’t brew without StarSan. I can’t imagine having to sanitize without it. I use a spray bottle and the stuff seems to go everywhere, so I am actually scared of the iodine based cleaners. I do tend to up the concentration on spray bottles. The thought being I am often spraying...

    For the Dads

I have a 4 and a 1 yo now. I kept brewing since the first one was born. I definitely agree with the multi day brews. Get the water collected and adjusted, the grains crushed, and everything pulled out and set up a day or days ahead of time. Then split the mash, boil, transfer, pitch, and...

Foam and time, what is the connection?

I wonder if it’s the same process that happens with my kegs. I burst carbonate, then the first few days the beer pours like a cider and I am working to get any head. After that it is great for a week. Then beyond that I am fighting the foam. I always assumed it was just getting more...

    Sulfur Flavor in Beer

Well if you kegged, purge the headspace every couple of days. It should reduce over time. If you bottled, I have no idea.

    All in one system sparging

Good points. I have my basket on a winch so I can lift it high enough to access the wort if needed. Last few times I have gone into the boil while still draining, but I may look for a container big enough to drain into so I don’t have to have it hanging there dripping. My issue is the basket...

    All in one system sparging

Some of the all-in-one systems like mine can’t handle the volume of a full volume mash, so you would need to add water for the boil anyway. Might as well pull the grain basket and pour the water over the grains for a sparge. I do this while the wort below is heating to boil. I’m one to cut...

Chilling wort - outdoor winter brewing

It will affect the hop utilization noticeably, but you can adjust for it somewhat. If you can cool it a bit with ice or something the effect will be less.

Chilling wort - outdoor winter brewing

I installed a 14” frost free hose sillcock so I can leave it on year round. I ended up installing a hot and cold sillcock which is very nice for cleaning outside on cold days too. I store a couple of those collapsing hoses in the garage or basement to keep them thawed. But the last couple...

    Keg purging with active fermentation

Ha, I was looking at your final calculations, and was convinced this had to be an iterative calculation, and not a power to (^) calculation. I was dead wrong. (: the software developer in me made me. I wrote a small program to calculate the decreasing O2 volume and the final O2...

    Iodophor - 12.5 or 25 ppm?

Can you pour boiling water into those fermenters? You have to be very careful of course pouring boiling water. I went through a bad infection a couple of years ago. What I couldn’t boil, I threw out. I got creative using my kettle for boiling some bigger things.

Your experience with electric brewing systems?

I recently switched from a 15 gallon kettle, a brew bag, and a 220v induction to a Grainfather G40. Simple is definitely better for cleaning, but my induction cooktop died so I looked at other options. With 2 little kids running around I wanted something that would easily hold strike and...

Going bulk grain - need some advice

And label the buckets not the lids! I used to label the lids then one day had several open and got the lids all mixed up. Pretty sure I figured it out by taste and smell but still.
