3 dead induction cookers. Now what?

no idea what killed to first 2 5k units. No blown fuses or visible damage. Just completely dead. I just opened the third one again and it might be salvageable. The coil was on some spring mechanism that was shattered and the component that visibly blew up turns out to be a soldered fuse. I...

3 dead induction cookers. Now what?

Ha, a control box (electronics) that’s remote, not a remote control for it. It just seems it’s never a good idea to have electronics so close to high heat.

3 dead induction cookers. Now what?

My first 2 burned up at full power. The third died at less than full power but that one had other issues. I would like to see one of these with a remote control box or something. Maybe I can rebuild the one I have and make it remote.

There has to be a better way to drain BIAB over a kettle at mashout without using a hoist

Due to my induction cooker blowing up, I had to move from the garage to the outdoor kitchen which has no hoist. What a pain it was dealing with that. I tried draining the kettle with the bag in it, but the port is too high up on the kettle to be effective. Next time I am going to mash in the...

3 dead induction cookers. Now what?

I’ve seen a lot of reviews of the Avantco dying too. I think I might see a grainfather G40 in my future. Let’s hop for some Black Friday deals.

    Drinking your starter

I always have a few sips of the starter beer to make sure it’s not bad. Surprisingly it doesn’t usually taste awful. I am not sure I can taste the flavors of the yeast though, but I guess I haven’t paid much attention. I would hate to ruin a whole batch due to a bad starter.

3 dead induction cookers. Now what?

So I bought this 5000w induction cooker off Amazon for about 400$. Warmfod or Warmford was the brand depending where you look. Just some Chinese OEM rebranded crap that is so prevalent on Amazon. It was great for a while then just died. I contacted the Amazon seller and he sent me a new...

Do I understand this bulk grain thing correctly?

And one other thing, the best thing about having bulk grain is I can brew when I get a chance and don’t have to run to the LHBS each time. Just keep some yeast and hops around and I can crush and go anytime. Improvise a recipe for whatever I have on hand.

Do I understand this bulk grain thing correctly?

Those vittle vaults are great for full bags, but can take a lot of space when you have several half bags. I use the Lowe’s white food grade buckets which are pretty cheap. They are a bit more versatile for me for storage and I can dump them and weigh out and grind back into them easily...

    Please critique my pilsner (Czech-ish)

what yeast are you using specifically? That’s pretty low on ABV. Any issue with body?

    Sharpness/Astringent Bite After Kegging

I get a similar harshness when I dry hop too long. My usual process is to dry hop loose in the fermenter for 3-4 days, cold crash, then gelatin fine for a day, then transfer. But sometimes after transferring there is a bitey harsh bitterness. It is always gone in about 3 days in the keg...

    Starter yeast is clumpy

I always taste and smell the starter beer. I am a little paranoid, but that should help to see if it is an issue, which it doesn’t sound like. Post a picture though.

    Re-Use Keg

I just did that yesterday. As long as the empty keg stayed refrigerated an was recently emptied, I will do it once in a while. The beauty is it’s already purged so why not do a closed transfer. What I did was hook my closed transfer hose to the out post purging any gunk left at the bottom...

North American Oktoberfest vs German Oktoberfest

Anyone have a good modern German festbier or marzen recipe including water parameters and mash schedule? I think I need to get one of each started for a good Novemberfest.

Simple Pale Ale hop sampler brew

And when you are done with the single trials, make a brew with all 3. It never disappoints.

Simple Pale Ale hop sampler brew

The great thing about doing your own recipes is you can experiment. But I agree with the other Comments hear. I do like a 5 or 10 minute addition for character. I’ve tried the 60 minute plus flameout and they seem to be missing some depth. Also the 3 hops you are trying are the most amazing hops...

Sanity check on brewing salts by volume

Thanks, that’s a bit high on the sulphate so will lower the gypsum to 2 teaspoons. 1 Tbsp did seem a bit much.

Sanity check on brewing salts by volume

my scale broke and I would like to brew today, so I am trying to work out the brewing salts by volume. I have in my notes, for a fairly high IBU clear ipa, use 1 tablespoon gypsum (powdery), and 1/3 teaspoon CaCl (Granular), and 1ml lactic acid for all RO water. I am not too concerned with...

    DIY 5KW Induction Heater

Hey @Brewman !, Very interesting post. I was hoping you could give me some advice on an induction repair. Basically I bought a 5000 W induction cooker on Amazon. I have had two of them burn out from over heating. They sent me the second one for free. I have no idea what is burning out but was...

    Another batch lost to infection

Yea I think I will pick up some IOStar and add that to the routine. Kegs and serving lines are fine. Last time I did not know it was an infection and kegged it. Once I did that it got in the vinyl keg lines I was using and contaminated kegs post fermentation. This time, I caught it before...
