Weird dots & dashes on Inkbird display.

Went to fire up my inkbird today and it's got some "extra lights" on the display -- 3 dots over 2 dashes. It's correctly showing the set temp (59°F) and the current temp (76.6*F), but these dots & dashes are new to me. The unit is a couple of years old and has been used maybe a dozen times...

First ever brew, extract, OG 1.111 but I used high gravity yeast; what am I in for?

I use Brewer's Friend; they have a ton of calculators for everything (and more are freely available on the internetz), though it seems ABV is the one I use most. Here's a list. https://www.brewersfriend.com/stats/ I think you want the extract OG/FG calculator. Somewhere (I think it was BF!)...

Walk me through force-carb with Nitro "beer gas" (75/25)

Ok so... Step one: depressure the tank and start over force-carbonating it with straight CO2 "like normal"...? Ok, let's say I did all that. Now I'm back to the original question(s), though. Oh! And this is why The Big Boys use those little plastic gizmos in the can. Hrmm... is there no way...

Walk me through force-carb with Nitro "beer gas" (75/25)

Ok, I've got my tank all carbed up using 75/25 (N/CO2) beer gas at 35psi. Now I want to understand how to get it from there into a bottle. * Lower tank pressure to __?__ serving/bottling pressure while in cooler? * On Bottling day, apply __?__ psi of { beer gas?, CO2? } to the tank for...

Sanitation: How long does Star-San stay good for (mixed up)?

FWIW, this is what we do, and it seems to work quite well. If nothing else, it's a convenient way to rinse-out bottling gear and similar. I drive my sanitizer at pretty low pressure and bleed the keg, but sometimes still end up with mild carbonation, which I find annoying (bubbles in the line...

Stuck, then late, then warm fermentation -- am I screwed?

I did not. (That might've been smart, eh?) At this point, my plan is to just leave it until next weekend, cold-crash it, take gravity (after sample warms back up) and hope for the best. In case my "humorous writing style" wasn't clear, What I'm Really asking is: what are the potential impacts...

Stuck, then late, then warm fermentation -- am I screwed?

Safale S-33 Rehydrated dry yeast. The process that I've repeated dozens of times: * Mix dry yeast in clean water at 80-85°F Some say this isn't necessary, but it doesn't hurt, and there's some support for the idea that it helps give the yeast a hand-up for OGs above 1.050. * Wait 15-45...

Stuck, then late, then warm fermentation -- am I screwed?

Made a batch 2 weekends ago per normal recipe, everything seemed normal. Proofed the yeast, it seemed fine (bubbling aggressively). Cooled to normal temp (59°) and pitched. Checked the next day, it seemed to be barely going (typical is vigorously blooping by next morning). Checked the...

    Food grade confusion

Ah, that's fair. Our [many-houses, shared] water system is largely PVC, but we use all Sched-40 or -80, which IS safe for that use. I guess it hadn't occurred to me that someone might use sewer-grade PVC for beer. "Hey Bob, whacha makin' there...?" :D

    Food grade confusion

Sorry, I know it's an old thread, but I just saw this: Where does the lead come from? Are you suggesting that PVC, as manufactured, contains lead? Or does the passing of hot-wort through Poly-Vinyl Chloride some how make lead? I'd buy "leaches toxins", but "lead" sounds a bit magical...

    Monster Mill 3 adjustment (MM3)

Heh, thanks. FWIW, this unit is about 1.5-2 yrs old, and I took the whole thing apart and used compressed air (tool -- tire-filler, not can) and a little baby-bottle brush to clean everything from every angle. It was a 30 min job. Also, I have the Malt Muncher (MoreBeer) motor driving it at...

    Monster Mill 3 adjustment (MM3)

Took my MM3 apart for a thorough cleaning and set the gap on the "front" (grain-exit) side for 0.038 (both sides, even). Wanted to check that my crush looked reasonable. Here's some 2-row that I ran through to test. Does that look about right? Thoughts? Advice? Etc? Thanks!

New microscope & yeast -- help verify what I'm seeing.

Yes, this is old yeast (though I have older ;) ) from last August, I think. Actually, I guess I should ask: is that old? It's been in the refrigerator the whole time, but otherwise uncared for. As I don't yet wash & harvest yeast -- I've just collected a few jars so that I can practice...

So like in the 6th one (the one after the "whale")? A straight "rice" shaped thing about the size of a yeast cell...?

What to look for in a microscope for observing yeasts and bacterias?

Old thread but... In my post asking to verify what I'm seeing, I link a ~$265 microscope w/camera that I'm pretty happy with. Check it out: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/new-microscope-yeast-help-verify-what-im-seeing.673589/

New microscope & yeast -- help verify what I'm seeing.

Just got a new microscope, pretty happy with it. ~$265 on Amazon, if anyone's interested. I've looked at a few tutorials, and a couple of threads here on HBT, so I think I have the gist of it. I haven't set up to count, yet -- these are just 1st-time pix so that I can verify that I'm able to...
