Burner Question: Is there a such thing as overkill?

Most of the recipes are clones or tried and true recipes. He uses Beersmith and has his system parameters nailed down pretty tight. His hops, if not from a unopened - recently purchased bag are from vacuum sealed bags kept in a freezer. I haven't had a jolly rancher in a very long time...

Burner Question: Is there a such thing as overkill?

I don't think it is a recipe or yeast issue, like I said, he is an astute brewer, but like you said, we just have to try turning the burner down and see if it changes. We are actually planning to brew the same recipe and see if it is an issue with his system..I think that might be a good place...

Burner Question: Is there a such thing as overkill?

He is an all grain brewer and we have brewed together a handful of times and we practically discuss brewing all day at work so, at this point so I am pretty in-tune with his brewing process and he is very detail oriented. I know it is not his mash technique or his yeast process. I know it is...

Burner Question: Is there a such thing as overkill?

Just thinking outloud so please pardon me for maybe not have thought this all the way through... A fellow homebrewer that I recently became buds with has an "issue" where all of his beers, regardless of style or mash temp, have a sort of sweetness to them. This is probably not the most...

Beer went from clear to cloudy during fermentation

No, Heady is supposed to be cloudy. Everything is good.

    Turbid Mashing a NEIPA?

I wish I could tell you, I have only had the pleasure of drinking their Green and Alter Ego...which is why I wanted to take a shot at brewing Julius. I will say that I typically don't drink during the week but I have not been abiding by that rule lately...can't resist a short pour after dinner...

    Treehouse Brewing Julius Clone

Dry hop 3 days before you package. I split my dry hops into two charges and added the first one at day 2 before fermentation stopped and I added the rest 3 days before I began my cold crash.

First Batch: Trying to learn from mistakes!

Congrats on your first batch! There is nothing like taking that first sip of your first beer...except heroin...I hear it is almost as addictive ;) The yeasty flavor is probably because the beer is still young. Darker beers with lots of specialty grains and adjuncts typically take a bit more...

Yes, if you look at the comments they make the correction there. It is .7 oz.

Trillium Fort Point Pale Ale Clone

Excellent. No trace of any vegetal flavors and the beer is extremely fragrant and refreshing. In fact, I had a neighbor try some and he couldn't believe that the grapefruit/citrus flavors were all from hops...he swore I had to have used fruit.

Trillium Fort Point Pale Ale Clone

I didn't add more hops...I just split my total dry hops into 2 charges...I added half at day 2 for biotrans...and I added the rest 3 days before cold crash and package.

Trillium Fort Point Pale Ale Clone

I recently did a Julius clone and used WLP002 because my LHBS was out of 007 and I added my biotransfermation charge at day 2...

    Turbid Mashing a NEIPA?

In my opinion biotransformation, or hops added during active fermentation, is a huge contributor to haze. I brewed the Treehouse Julius clone HERE and total grist only had about 10% oats. I also used an ESB yeast that attenuated 80% and has very high flocculation.

    Colorado Springs Brew Clubs?

Strange, I went to my first meeting in March and had a different experience. Everyone seemed pretty welcoming and chatty....maybe I just talk too much to ignore.

Aslin Mind the Hop Ward Labs Results

Never got the chance to have any Aslin...the one time I managed to go before moving out of DC, they were sold out by the time I got there. I hear great things about their beer though...and actually bumped into one of the owners on a flight to FL...super cool guy. Anyway, pretty interesting to...

    Does pH matter for BIAB?

    * Forenote: When I say 'BIAB' I am referring to those that do full volume mash. As some, including myself, do a version of BIAB that is really the same as a traditional 3 vessel method of mash and sparge where the bag is essentially a false bottom and makes cleanup a bit easier. Simply...
