I bought a new racking cane and a drilled #2 stopper last night. I already had a picnic tap assemble for serving. I just wanted to test it out right away, so I only filled one bottle. I skipped chilling the bottle and just went for it. Worked beautifully. Can't wait to crack it open when I get...
ONE YEAR LATER.... how did those yeilds go for you Minnesotans in the Fall of 2012? I am a first time grower, and have just ordered a bunch of crowns from Great Lakes Hops. 3 Columbus, 3 Glacier, and 2 Nugget. Can't wait to get them in the ground. I have heard great things about crowns from GL...
Having a glass of my "1st nut, brown ale." Its my latest batch of my house nut brown which has won three medals thus far. Just slugged down a delicious pint, think I'll have another!
Ive used chocolate extract and cacao nibs before. +1 to cocoa powder and cacao nibs for flavor, but the extract can really help add chocolate aroma. I'd say go ahead and use all 3. just be sure to add about half of the extract when bottling, give it a taste, then call it good or add more. I...
Just placed an order for 8 crowns from Great Lakes Hops. I have read previous threads from folks here on HBT, and they seem pretty legit. I live just outside Minneapolis, MN. Any advice from a fellow MN hop grower would be great.

Thanks!

I just acquired a refractometer for use in my All-Grain brewing productions. I would really like to utilize this tool for quickly checking the gravity of my runnings, and for Pre & Post boil gravity readings. During my last 3 brew sessions I have had stange results. My pre boil gravity will read...
Just used my new hop spider. I built one with a SS sink flange and three 6" bolts. cost about 20 bucks (with 3 - 5 gallon paint strainer bags) and worked like a charm. the bags are so big I couldn't see a loss in utilization being an issue. wort flowed freely through my 40 plate chiller.
