Cuvee De Trolls clone recipe question

I actually just purchased John's 4th edition book a few days ago and started reading that. I'm guessing the 4th edition is even better than the 1st? I did start reading it, and there's a lot of stuff that is definitely over my head right now, but I'll get there, I think.

Cuvee De Trolls clone recipe question

Thanks for your help. I'm gonna give this recipe a shot.

Cuvee De Trolls clone recipe question

Interesting. So sparging is optional in both cases. Man, I could use a brew buddy in Milwaukee to teach me the ropes.

Cuvee De Trolls clone recipe question

Don't partial mashes and all extract both mention LME and DME? I think part of my confusion is that this recipe says "steep for 90 min" but in a partial mash it seems you have to do the sparge/rinse step. So, is it steep, or is it sparge? Thanks for being patient with me. I want to take the...

Cuvee De Trolls clone recipe question

So, I chatted with the guys from NB and they told me this is a partial mash recipe. I'd like to know how to tell the difference between partial mash and just steeping the grains just by looking at a recipe like this. I have done steeping, but not partial mash yet. The amount of stuff to learn in...

Drom John Cuvée Des Trolls Clone

I'm guessing I just steep the grains? Do I have to sparge or anything? I've never done anything but extracts.

Drom John Cuvée Des Trolls Clone

Thanks. I was talking to the guys at NB and they told me this is considered a Partial Mash. I was just confused because I've never brewed anything that wasn't from a kit, and I simply must brew this CDT clone as it's a favorite beer of mine. Any tips or guidelines for a new brewer taking on...

    Beer Gun

However, I think I'm going to adopt mongoose's extra piece of tubing to fit over the pic-tap. Great idea!

    Beer Gun

I was looking into the same thing, and found some great posts on here about making your own. I did mine yesterday and I can say that it works fantastic! Mine looks like Mongoose's except that there's a basketball needle in there for venting. I'm actually drinking one at my desk that I poured...

    Conditioning and OG questions

I'm not sure if anyone is still watching this thread, but I had about 10 pints from it, including one I just opened at my desk today at work, and it turned out phenomenal!! Thank you all for the help you provided, I'm so stoked I was able to brew my own hefe-weizen to my liking and have it taste...

Actually, upon further review, this looks like a fairly easy recipe. Steep the first set for 90 minutes at around 155, then the rest is just extract malt? P.S. What is "partial something?"

Cuvee De Trolls clone recipe question

I love cuvee, and I found this recipe last night offering to be a clone: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/drom-john-cuvée-des-trolls-clone.579777/ I'm fairly new to brewing but I'm guessing that recipe is what's called a partial mash? I'd like to give it a try though I haven't...

As a relative newb and a lover of cuvee de trolls, can this be done with extracts?

    Conditioning and OG questions

Racked and carbonated yesterday and force carbonated. After a long day of baseball tournament for my son, I took a pull from it. It was freaking delicious. No off flavors, good banana flavor. Not great head retention though.

    Conditioning and OG questions

Can I use malt from my extract kit to make my starter, or do I need to purchase a bag of DME to make one? I'm thinking a starter might help prevent this next time and I've never made one. Using Omega yeast.

Really? That's interesting. That must be what's happening then.

Took another reading today, hasn't moved from 1.020, no airlock activity. Temp on carboy read 66. Put a space heater on it and now it's bubbling. I wonder if my temperature is the problem.

    Conditioning and OG questions

Yeah I've been hitting it with a space heater. I'm going to do another gravity reading tomorrow to see where we are at.

    Conditioning and OG questions

Starting to get a bit nervous. I took a gravity reading 3 days ago and it was at 1.024. Took one today and we're at 1.020. Its been on for 9 days now. It's moving but going slower than I expected from what I hear about hefe-weizen. Crauesen has mostly reduced to a thin brown film. I think I just...
