    Exploring "no chill" brewing

To avoid confusion, hopefully, I should say the corny is just to hold the wort while it cools. I'll be fermenting in a brew bucket, then racking to keg.

    Exploring "no chill" brewing

Anyone here ever No-Chill in a corny, then push out the cold break via c02? I should really say Slo-Chill, as I'll be icebathing the corny & pitching soon after reaching temp. Usually 4-6 hrs. What about, if you've already got the gas on to push out the cold break, wouldn't pouring the wort...

What are you listening to (music!!!) right now? Embarrassing or not... share

Tons & tons of the black keys. Damn! Them dorks can rip some blues. F'n dorky white guys putting out sounds from 50 yrs ago! "brothers" hear it. Now!

    "No Chill" Containers

Totally. Slow chill & no chill are primarily the same, within reason. But all we're talking about here is basically avoiding quick-cooling equipment and the cost/ work involved. Seems like we're all getting good result with both. I'm looking forward to my next brew wherein I'll "slow-chill" in a...

    "No Chill" Containers

I have a designated plastic BrewCraft bucket I use to hold the wort. But then I put it in an icebath. Slow-Chill? It's been working really well for me. The bucket is just your regular brew fermenting bucket. No spigot on this one, ice bath... After about 3-4 hours & a change of water, I'm at...

    Fruit Flies in beer bottles

Actually read an article in some rag about a study in which male & female fruit flies were controlled in an effort to breed in an environment containing a single source of alcohol, beer. The male flies would pursue the females, and after failing to mate with their chosen one, would,rather...

    Yeast washing question

Never had that problem. Combine them! I think that's what you're asking, right? I combine my harvests into fat doses so I don't need a starter. Approx 1-200ml doses is perfect for most decent strength/ full bodied beers. Thats about 1/3-1/2 cup, btw. I don't worry about oxygen and blah blah...

    Is Pitch and Cool OK?

I should also specify that by "slowing after 3-4 days" I meant achieving terminal gravity. Then let it do it's magic for the next 2 wks or so.

    Is Pitch and Cool OK?

What he said :) I practice a similar method, but try to be as absolutely super clean as possible during the cooling/transferring phase. I guess it's called "no chill" chill. I like it. It's free. And effective. Awesome ferments, in buckets, starting in about 6 hrs, slowing after just 3-4 days...

I've been saying this for a while...

You have nothing to fear but the fear itself! I went AG about 10-15 batches ago & I swear it's even easier then extract/partial. Less clean up, somehow..., total control, pride in "designing" brews, no more stovetop (def get a campchef outdoor propane burner, you won't believe the difference in...

What I did for beer today

Skipped out of work early to go home and thoroughly ****** the brewery. Always a good reason to leave work :)

What are you listening to (music!!!) right now? Embarrassing or not... share

Ahhh yes. Cascadian black metal. Best paired with a nice CDA. Check out Wolves In The Throne Room. If youve never heard of em, that is. Epic sh!t. You'll love it. Currently melting to Aldebaran's newest super long crushing doom album, Embracing The Lightless Depths. Definately worth checking...

Best single addition to your brew day procedure

Me too! But that was after I found this forum. I've learned and practice so much information and techniques that I've encountered on this forum, from all you basass brewers out there. So without a doubt my single best addition has got to be HBT. Thanx everyone! Brew On

    Infected - Help Me Diagnose!

What is this? Lacto? No infection in the brew. Quite a nice ferment, actually. This pic is after racking to keg and not getting to harvest/cleanup for a day or so. Opened the bucket and saw this awesome cateye moonscape natural reaction. The yeast beneath is US05. I really just opened the...

How long do you ferment your session brews?

Thanx y'all ! Hey NordEast, I regret to share that I did NOT go to see Agollach last night here in Portland :( new album tour, but just too dog tired. Check out their new album if you can. It's epic.

How long do you ferment your session brews?

I've been brewing some tasty sessions as of late w/ wlp001 & US05, and I e been getting real quick finishes. My question to all you badass brewers out there, how long do YOU ferment your sessions? And is there really any advantage to conditioning for 3 weeks in the fermenter?

    columbus? really??

Last night I drank some ambers I made w/ just Columbus & Cascade. Awesome combination. Don't be afraid to try Columbus, they're great hops. Use caution with them Galenas, tho. That being said, I'm actually really enjoying an IPA right now w/ tons of Galena late additions bottled over a month...
