    Sparging and RIMs

I do a gas fired rims, and I continuously recirc the mash at a slow rate and never stir the mash so the grain bed compacts. Then slowly drain the mash tun into the boil kettle and switch the inlets to the pump from the mash tun drain valve to the drain on the HLT and sparge at the rate I'm...

    NPT not threading/screwing in...

The fitting could have warped from the heat of welding. But if he can run a tap through the fitting it should be ok. Maybe it's your nipple that's bad. Stainless has a tendency to gall so don't force it. A properly cut thread should be able to hand tighten 3.5 full turns. Now that doesnt mean it...

Building a morebeer tippy dump replica

The hardest part was trying to figure out the burner supports, and what dimension to put them on center. How do you know where to put those supports? I'll bet you have a way that is so simple that I will be mad that I fought them the whole way. Dealing with the 45* made it much more difficult.

Building a morebeer tippy dump replica

Made some big progress today. Took OneHoppyDude's suggestion and modified my brew stand to use his air vents. I also used the 1"x2" .065 wall tubing for the burner brackets. I'm very happy how things are turning out. This stand is for my brewing buddy but I'm learning a crap ton from my mistakes...

Need a slap in the face IPA to brew

I just did a Pliny clone and it was really good wonderful hop aroma. Here is the recipe I used: 13 lbs 2-row 1lb- carapils .5 lb c40 1 lb dextrose Mash low 149-151 till mashout. 2.25 oz CTZ @ 90 .5 oz CTZ @ 45 .75 oz simcoe @ 30 .75 oz centennial @ 1 1.75 oz simcoe @ 1 Dry hop 1 oz of each...

    Looking for a Burner...

I'd get the 60 qt turkey fryer and burner setup. I was using this for my BIAB for several brews and it was just as easy as doing a extract boil on the stove, and you get the benefits of a full boil.

How's this kettle look for doing BIAB

That looks awesome! I've never seen the bayou classic with a ball valve, but for BIAB I don't see how you could go wrong. I used the same one for several BIAB's (minus the valve) and the beers came out stellar. You really only need a floating milk thermometer anyways, and it's more accurate IMO...

Building a morebeer tippy dump replica

Wow, thanks for the heads up! Glad I haven't gone so far as to not cut them out and restart. I didn't realize that those cut outs served a purpose, these are some well thought out shrouds. Even the way it was it did a helluva job directing heat at my kettles.

Building a morebeer tippy dump replica

Finally a update. Things have been going pretty slow in progress. I decided to go with Kurt's (OneHoppyGuy) burner shrouds from brewsteel.com and the early tests show that this thing makes a HUGE difference. I basically have the stands welded up I just have the mash tun with the brewsteel shroud...

Lagunitas Hop Stoopid Clone - Straight from Lagunitas

Nevermind, it's because I didn't add the hopshots. But I guess I need to up the grain a bit because at 70% eff I only get 1.065 OG, and it says 1.085 on the bottle.

Lagunitas Hop Stoopid Clone - Straight from Lagunitas

Which Brew Pot would you choose?

Get the winware 60qt stainless pots, you will not be dissapointed they are heavy gauge 18 gauge ss and tri clad bottoms. I welded on my own couplers and you could not tell the difference between my kettle and morebeers kettles. I personally think that morebeer must get their kettles from the...

    Not-So-Obnoxious Baseball Thread

Fan turnout is extremely important, for one that means revenue for the team and that means better players. Also if you use AT&T park for example, it's been stated over and over that the players feed off of the crowd energy so that has to mean something.
