    Stir Plate's to get/avoid?

The problem with no speed adjustment is that if it spins too fast it will throw the bar and be useless. Order a 12v LED dimmer off amazon and be done with it. You won't even need tape or wire nuts...

    A little overwhelmed

Why not just let it ride and see what happens? I'd honestly like to know what the outcome is. My guess is that you will have a low OG and probably left a lot of sugar in the mash tun.

    First time using Liquid Yeast

Read this a little too late, just made my first starter and managed to take a yeast shower... In my defense it says right on the vial to shake well.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing an American IPA Sunday morning, just put the starter of WLP001 on the stir plate. This will be my first AG brew.

    Stir Plate's to get/avoid?

I DIY'd mine and I'm happy with it, had everything but the PWM controller around the house. The only thing I'm not too fond of with the stir starter is how small it is, a 2L flask sits over the edge quite a bit. That's why I made mine out of a cigar box, lots of room.

Planning my first AG brew day

Sounds good to me. I've got everything in stock and I'll be making the starter tonight for a Sunday morning brew.

    Ruined Starter?

I got three vials of White Labs yeast yesterday and all 3 had formed the solid gelatinous mass you describe. Took some serious shaking but I got it all suspended eventually. I don't think it's gonna matter, the yeast is less than 2 weeks old so I know it's good. Maybe you should DIY up a stir...

    First all grain attempt

I hope my first AG mash comes as close as yours to desired mash temp. Spot on.

Help bypass fridge thermostat with stc

Like a boss, Nicely done. Much cleaner than one of those hot tub panel box dealys.

Help bypass fridge thermostat with stc

And after reading your description a couple of times for clarity it seems that you are on the right track. Just make sure you cap whats left of that black wire if you dont remove it from the circuit board completely, it can be dangerous because you wont have any warning as to whether or not it...

Help bypass fridge thermostat with stc

You are right, you need two hots going into the STC, I made that diagram in like the last 3 mins of my break... also where I wrote hot out it should be the cool circuit and not the heat circuit. Your diagram looks correct, you have both Hot and Neutral going to the old circuit so you will...

Help bypass fridge thermostat with stc

I am gonna need some sort of diagram to understand exactly what you are saying. The reason I suggest opening the electrical box mounted to the compressor is that it will give you a good safe grounded place to branch your mains wire. Heres a simple paint sketch of what you would want to do...

Help bypass fridge thermostat with stc

Uh that sounds way over complicated. The wire with the plug on it shouldn't be touched, it runs into a panel on the compressor and is split so that the hot wire has to go through the thermostat before it gets to your compressor. The other wire (the one going to the thermostat) is where you want...

Help bypass fridge thermostat with stc

The compressor always works at 100%, the thermostat just opens and closes a circuit, you should be able to cut the wire going to the thermostat (keep in mind that if the fridge has a light that it probably gets power from this same circuit) and wire it into your stc. Obviously you want to do...

Planning my first AG brew day

Bump cause brew day is coming up. Everything's ordered so I'd like to know what to do with the water...

Help bypass fridge thermostat with stc

First of all, where do you adjust the fridge temp? Are those leds buttons? If so, then that is a digital thermostat. Other than that there must be an adjustment dial somewhere.

    Stir plate fan speed controller???

Here's my beast, I'll be using it this weekend for my first AG batch. The LED light dimmer worked great. Don't know if it's because my fan is brushless or not but it does make a funny whirring noise. At full speed it won't throw the stir bar, probably because of the big magnets and how there is...

    How cold is it

Was -26C this morning (-15F) I'm really getting sick of it. Just the other day it was +2C (36F) and I was happily shoveling off the deck in a t-shirt. Can't wait to just relax on the deck with a homebrew...

New post a picture of your pint

Here's my blonde lager, it's far better than I would have imagined. Great head retention and the gelatin cleared it really nice. This was one of the 6 bottle conditioned brews from this batch.
