    Hop recommendation for Amber Ale?

Heck that sounds great. I have Centennial in whole cone and pellets and Chinook in pellets. I think I used all my Cascade earlier in the year, but had enough C hops to go around for now. I also have a little Simcoe left and had someone call it Cascade on steroids. Not sure how if that is...

    Hop recommendation for Amber Ale?

Making a simple amber ale from LME and a little Munich and wheat steeped in. Going to use Safale S-04. Looking to keep it about 25 ibu and recipe calculates out to be about 5.5% abv. What do you recommend?

Thanks for the advice. I'll give that a go next time.

Extract Pale Ale I cooked up with weekend with induction cooktop.

So in my quest to make easy and fast beers I am going back to extract for some time and making several 2.5 gallon batches. This weekend I used my son's portable induction cooktop. Great thing is I can set the temp and drop a probe in the water and timer all on my phone. I did a gallon of...

Pale Ale recipe / experiment gets thumbs up from my soccer team

I've kicked this around on HomeBrewTalk a few times and decided to brew it. I did a base pale ale with 2 row and Vienna. I bitter hopped it and then split into 2-2.5 gallon batches and dry hopped with different hops in each. Bottle conditioned for 3 weeks and success with my over-40 team...

    Pilsen DME and boil times

I looked back at my notes on the 18+ brews I made over the last 2 years. Close to half were kits and I've done equal numbers of all grain and extract. Some of best I have made were small batch extract beers. I'd rather force down 2.5 gallons a adequate beer than toss 5 gallons of not so good...

    Pilsen DME and boil times

That's basically the plan. Good to hear about the no 90 min boil!

    Pilsen DME and boil times

Do I have to do those 90 minute boils when I use a pilsen DME or LME extract? I do a lot of 3 gallon 30 minute boils with LME and DME with great success and I recently bought some Briess pilsen extract and thought I'd ask. Thanks

Belgian candi syrup add near end of fermentation...why?

The recipe has a few options on yeast, like most do, but I am a fan of White Labs so I will go with WLP530. The OG is listed at 1.070 but I need to run that through the calculator. Prior to the candi syrup it only calls for 13.5 lbs of grain.

Belgian candi syrup add near end of fermentation...why?

I'm baffled as to why add this near the end of fermentation. Seeing it is not as fermentable as other sugars I would expect it to bump the body and mouthfeel (possibly) but wouldn't it kick the fermentation off again? Recipe does not specify. I'm also baffled as to how to mix it in. I can't...

    Lutra in a pseudo-lager

I have to agree. Everything I have read says this fires up and runs like crazy. I didn't make note of this, but I use RO water on nearly all my brews over the last 8+ months. I'm in Baton Rouge and we have pretty soft water with a high sodium content. Looking back at other Kveik yeasts I...

    Lutra in a pseudo-lager

I did not put in nutrients, but in 12 hours the top was pushed off the fermentor so I thought all was healthy and strong. I did add them to the US05 starter to make sure it was as healthy as it could get.

    Lutra in a pseudo-lager

I have a glass hydrometer and I temperature correct the readings. I don't have my book with me but I noted all the readings I did. I must have checked it 7 or 8 times.

    Omega Lutra yeast?

Actually this was an extract kit and didn't have specialty grains either.

    Lutra in a pseudo-lager

Well, my Lutra got stuck and I have no idea why. I made a US-05 starter and added it in there and it slowly started going again. Almost 4 weeks in I got to the FG I was after, or close to it, and bottled it 4 days ago. 3 days bottle conditioned and it has some fizz and no head, but tastes...

    Omega Lutra yeast?

74 at night and maybe 80 during the day. It is in my spare bathroom, an interior room.

    Omega Lutra yeast?

I was forced to do kind of that this past week. The Lutra got stuck at 1.022 for a week in my maibock. Initially it flew off like a rocket. 1.066 to 1.026 in like 5 days. Day 1 it pushed the airlock and lid off my big mouth bubbler. By the 7th day it looked done, until I took the gravity...

    Omega Lutra yeast?

I'm doing one right now. 1.066og and after 9 days it if finally down to 1.022 but still bubbling every 5-10 seconds. Temps vary fro 74deg at night to 80 during the day. It's sitting in the guest bathroom where it is dark 99% of the time. Lutra took off the first night and I awoke to overflow...

    Lutra in a pseudo-lager

What I mean to as if it normal for Lutra to take off like a rocket and even with a steady bubble be going this long? This was an extract brew, not that that should make a difference.
