Bayou Classic SP10 - not worth buying

Took 2 hours, TWO HOURS to bring 5 gallons in a 10-gallon megapot to a boil on my first attempt at brewing 5 gallons. The flames weren't very tall, barely reached the pot and couldn't be made to go higher - I tinkered with the air intake, I tinkered with the valve - nothing. THe very tip top...

New way to control Pellet Hop gunk!

Subscribed; looking forward to seeing how the 300 and 400 work out

Plastic fermenting bucket - not fermenting.

Sounds like it could be the yeast, or like Yooper said, you could be screwing up the sanitation

Do plate chillers really suck this much?!

I've read about the problems with plate chillers, and how it takes some extremely strong acid to clean them out; too much trouble IMO. I've got a 50' copper immersion chiller that I got off Amazon for $80; planning on eventually getting a nice little compact counterflow chiller, something like...

Doing your own CO2 refills from a larger tank

Let's put it this way - there's a reason you need to be licensed to refill CO2 tanks, just like there's a reason those tanks are made of steel.

    Removing hot break/cold break

Hot break is bad; you want that gone; best way to get rid of it is to chill the wort quickly via immersion chiller, counterflow chiller, or a good ice bath. Hot break is what falls to the bottom of the kettle when the wort stops boiling, the trub. Cold break, aka chill haze, is arguably...

I say go for it - the Darwin Awards are always looking for new candidates

how to uncarb an over-carbonated keg?

Guy really needs to STFU and get to the point; it's like a bad porno movie, someone needs to tell him the focus is NOT the dude holding the camera. He doesn't get to the actual technique until the 8:10 mark Only fast-forwards 3 seconds for me; on an 11 minute video, it's pretty ****ty

What do you guys think of this starter kit?

I can only recommend US suppliers; UK is totally foreign to me.

I think my yeast are trying to kill me...

You could always go down to your LHBS and buy a fermometer for a couple bucks - nifty little things to have, just slap it on your fermenter and you know what tempt the yeast are at inside

    How important are removable poppets?

Much appreciated; Kegconnection sells new 5-gallon kegs for $110, but the poppets are non-removable. Guess I'll be passing on them

    How important are removable poppets?

Would you buy a keg if the poppets were removeable? How big a deal is it?

Anyone ever try to re-use one of those Heinneken mini kegs?

The ones you buy in the grocery store - anyone ever try to repurpose the little sucker and use it to bottle homebrew? If so, how did you go about doing it? How much sugar did you use?

    Pipe smoking, a lost art.

Been loving me some Frog Morton, especially On the Town

Am I the only one :0)

Nope; single and my home is my castle. Got beer fermenting in the kitchen, a humidor with cigars next to the patio door, some pipes/tobacco on the coffee table next to my tetsubin, and my gun on the nightstand. Life is good; a bit lonely at times, but all in all pretty good

    Winter's Comming!

Yeah, winter's coming for me too - that time of year when the temps from from 90F to 70F, maybe even 60F at night. Tough times, tough times . . .
