    Double Hopped Psuedolager

Hey eveybody, I made this recipe up trying to clone a Luma (a dry hopped carlsberg) using ale yeast. I ended up getting a different beer, but everybody who had it says its amazing. Ingredients: ------------ Amount Item Type % or IBU 0.2 lb carapils 0.2 lb crystal 10l 5.50 lb Extra light dry...

will amylase enzyme lower fg for simple extract recipe?

this is probably one of the best beers I ever had. I think it will be my first uploaded recipe, as even though its green its amazing. Will obviously wait until the bottles are properly conditioned. to finish this thread and answer the post: I got to 88% attenuation with us-05, working with...

IBU with Beersmith on high gravity beer

Thanks. I think I will do that then. Use 2l of ice as top off just to lower temp faster. I top off all of my batches with at least 8L of water that is usually 50% ice. Never had much issue. Not saying there is no risk but for me it's the same risk as always.

IBU with Beersmith on high gravity beer

Thank you. Can I go around the IBU problem by boiling for example, 5L of water with bittering hops, and freezing them? I can then use them as the top off portion of my water. Another approach is to go with less top off and doing basically a no chill. I can time my brewing to finish towards the...

IBU with Beersmith on high gravity beer

I appreciate the reply! I think I will try to do a 5.5l top off, and just use it as a base standard on this brew size. Those IBUs are as high as they get

IBU with Beersmith on high gravity beer

Hey guys, I am going to brew a pliny the elder clone for the first time, using my own Extract version. The fermenter vol is 13.7L and my top off will be 5.5L the question is, is the IBU calculated by beersmith true? Can i really get to 100IBU's with only about 60g of hop providing most of my...

will amylase enzyme lower fg for simple extract recipe?

okay. seems like it has stopped bubbling yesterday and fg is at 1.004 since this has never happened to me (i am new, and do only extract) i will attribute the low fg to the amylase enzyme doing its job. I will let the beer have another week in primary before bottling. however I am sure I am...

will amylase enzyme lower fg for simple extract recipe?

just as a quick update to all interested. I made a 1.050 OG beer, with us-05 and added alpha amylase right with the yeast pitch. Dont know if it has anything to do with it but airlock is bubbling hard less than 3H after pitch. Will update on FG. This is an extract beer

    Caramel cream ale?

Okay, since I got no reply I went ahead and brewed this according to recipe, with minor changes: yeast is k-97 Total lactose is 230G, which is 8oz and 3 Oz total of real pure vanilla extract half vanilla after boil, half when bottling. my thoughts? barely any sweetness from lactose. this is my...

airlock stopped bubbling after less than 48H since pitch

i feel kind of stupid now. i went to take another gravity reading after writing this, thinking perhaps it actually finished as I pitched warm. i saw it didnt finish, as expected fg is 1.012 and it is 1.022, so I gave it a little shake. I could actually see (i use a non clear plastic fermenter)...

airlock stopped bubbling after less than 48H since pitch

as the title says. Some details: brewed 13L in a 26L fermenter SG was 1.054 Current Gravity is 1.022 airlock was bubbling pretty strong, but not strongest Ive seen, starting 2 hours from pitching. its been less than 48H and now airlock completely halted I pitched at 29C, k-97 yeast. any...

will amylase enzyme lower fg for simple extract recipe?

I actually only brewed a single beer which I didnt like, and I did not attribute it to the strain. Before your comments, I was considering Nottingham or Lutra Kveik. At the moment I am also considering US05 or s-04. I believe the Alpha will help raise attenuation by just a bit and not too...

will amylase enzyme lower fg for simple extract recipe?

I understand that, without knowing the actual fermentability of my dme, I will not know if the ALPHA will do anything. I think I will aim to have a low fg beer without accounting for the Alpha, and add some of the ALPHA to my mash. I will update on full recipe and how it goes eventually. by...

will amylase enzyme lower fg for simple extract recipe?

Guess I am posting my recipe!;) I just didn't want to go too far off topic anyway: About 21 Liters Steeping: 100g of Carapils (i am not sure from where its imported and I'm contemplating doing 200g) EXTRACT: 2.5 kg of Muntons extra light dme - spray malt Hallertau Mittelfrueh boil for 60 min -...

i am also contemplating using kveik lutra and adding table sugar.

will amylase enzyme lower fg for simple extract recipe?

I am planning on using Alpha, but I am able to get both. from what I understood, a gluco enzyme will significantly dry out my beer, while an alpha enzyme is very much depended on the type of yeast used. If used a high attenuating yeast, it will also dry out the end product. if using a low...

will amylase enzyme lower fg for simple extract recipe?

got it. 1. youre right, I do feel like experimenting a bit.;) 2. my reasoning behind the enzyme is that I have 0 temp control, only able to brew at room temp and room temp currently is 22c and getting warmer by the day. 3. since I will be using ale yeast and aiming for a lager like flavor...
