Custom Spike TC eBIAB Build- stovetop plus 120v element

I think either would work. Just depends on what you want. I prefer no threads to clean when possible. And with TC you can use a TC to NPT fitting if needed, which I find to be less obtrusive than the reverse.

Custom Spike TC eBIAB Build- stovetop plus 120v element

For right now, I am planning on doing a couple of batches without directly heating the mash and with no false bottom. Then I'll run some trials with recirculation and heating. I have a loc line recirculation arm that I can switch out with the whirlpool arm. It's the nice thing about having a TC...

Show me your custom Spike brew kettle!

TC versus NPT is a preference call. I prefer the easy cleaning, but finding some parts can be slightly more tricky. But I've found Jay at NorCal can whip you up pretty much anything you need at very reasonable prices. I still use cam locks too, but no threads to scrub.

Hit up jay at NorCal. They have standard sizes (10" drop with a port at 2" on the 10g puts you at the 4 gallon mark). Great guy to work with. Highly recommended. I'd also recommend if you even think you might use another port at some point, go ahead and add it. $30 or $40 now feels a lot...

Show me your custom Spike brew kettle!

I designed my custom Spike 10g kettle for eBIAB on my stovetop with an element to boost to boil and strike temps (no 240v access). All TC ports for element, pickup, thermowell (or second element if I want later), and mash recirculation/ whirlpool arm. More details here

Custom Spike TC eBIAB Build- stovetop plus 120v element

Hey all, Just thought I would share my build as it is finally under way! Before we go any further, the reasoning behind this build: I live in a downtown apartment where I don't have easy outdoor access for propane brewing or 240v in the apartment. I started off doing 1 to 3 gallon all grain...

    White Labs Yeast Vault

The Second Saison was finally carbed and ready to taste last night. 9 days from brewing to drinking in all. Turned out fantastic! I really wasn't sure about this WLP564 blend after my first batch, but the repitched harvest did wonders with the second. Definitely give the WLP564 a shot with the...

    White Labs Yeast Vault

Nice and dry! what was your grist bill and mash procedure? Funk weapon #2 is awesome! I have a Styrian dry hopped Belgian Amber sitting on that, some B claussenii, and B bruxellensis var Drei in a three way split.

    White Labs Yeast Vault

Saison #2 (using the repitched yeast from my previous saison) appears to have finished fermentation by 96 hours. Visually activity has ceased and gravity seems to have stabilized. Overall I appear to have gotten 85% attenuation (1.059 to 1.009), which is slightly less than the higher gravity...

    White Labs Yeast Vault

I have found through some testing of my own that the Torlaspora delbrueckii appears to have poor viability over time. I have been able to plate and check - fresh vial, a 5 month or so old vial, a starter, and what I collected from my conical. At 5 months I detected zero viable Td. Where when I...

    White Labs Yeast Vault

My higher gravity saison (out of brewing clasic styles- but subbed in jarrylo hops) turned out well with the Leeuwenhoek Blend, jarrylo fruit (pear and maybe red apple character) character but with a touch too much higher alcohols. Not a lot of yeast derived spicy saison flavors, but more smooth...

EZboil, Power Regulator for Boiling DSPR110

Thanks for the input! Looks to do the trick! Anyone else have any thoughts on using the EZ Boil with this setup! Opinions greatly appreciated!

    White Labs Yeast Vault

I just recently made a simple saison using WLP 564 (2 vials into a 2L starter due to age of vials at this point) with Jarrylo hop hash, some Belgian pilsen, a touch of wheat malt, and a pound of sugar. Got from 1.071 to 1.008 (about 89% attenuation) in about 12 days. Started fermentation at 60F...

EZboil, Power Regulator for Boiling DSPR110

Hey all, I'm in the process of planning and building out a 5g 120v eBIAB setup where I will likely use my stove top to boost temps for strike water heating and bringing things up to a boil. I dont have easy access to 240v and live in a smaller downtown apartment. I don't know much about...

    Conical Fermenter

Thanks for the speedy relpy guys! I understand you are still finalizing some things. I will keep an eye out. I am really looking forward to the final details and a potential side by side with my Ss Brewtech. I like that conical a lot, but if your conical performs as well as your v3 kettle i...

    Conical Fermenter

How tall is the 7g version? I have a fridge with about 35" clearance I use to control ferment temps with my Ss Brewtech Chronical and I am considering giving your conical a try if it will fit! Also, I use a yeast harvester (sight glass based) how much space is there from the 2" dump to the...

Can you utilize two out of phase 120v 20a GFCI outlets to power a 240v element?

I'll do that. Does the brew boss system require a computer/ tablet? That's the impression I get. Not sure I dig that if so. Not against it, just seems like more opportunities for problems. Anyone had experience with the Brau Supply 120v controller? Any recommendations regarding TC...

    Nashville Breweries

I second those three. They are all great and well within walking distance in a nice area of town. The tour at Yazoo is great. If you like sours and wilds try their Embrace the funk series. Jackalope and TN brew works both have good and unique beers. I'd also add Black Abbey if you like...
