    Strange Lager Fermentation

Did you use fermcap-S or something similar? I've used it once and either had no krausen or it rose and fell so fast I missed it.

    Split beer into 2 fermenters - 50% didn't ferment

It's probably more likely that one container had a leak. Did you check both batches with a hydrometer?

White Labs English Ale yeast floculating in flask on stir plate.

That's what it looked like the last time I used Imperial Pub. At the time, I was concerned also but read English yeasts are normally clumpy and heavy like that.

Cold Crash Question. Pre- vs post-carbonation

I stopped cold crashing in the fermenter because of oxygen issues. I move it to the keg when it's done bubbling, leave it at ferm temps for a few days in the keg, then hook it up to co2 and bring it down to the 30s so I can force carb. I also bought a floating dip tube so I can get clear beer...

    Blow-off tube

some people add another dose of oxygen on purpose 12 or hours after pitching just to make sure the yeast have enough. i agree that little if any made it in though

Please Help!!! Is my NEIPA infected?

boiling your chiller is so you don't have to leave it in sanitizer. and the wort is probably hot enough to sanitize it at flameout anyway.

    looks fine to me

    why use a pump...

My main reason for getting a pump was so I could stop trying to lift and dump anywhere from 5-10 gallons of water/wort. Whirlpooling while chilling seems to speed up the process as well.

    The bucket is gonna Blow!!

In my experience, the pressure built back up within minutes. Did you just replace the air lock and then leave? If so, I'm afraid of what you might find when you get back.

Did I just ruin my new fermenter?

I've always thought this was a silly concept. My guess is anything plastic is going to have at least a little scratch or scrape somewhere that you can barely even see after just a few uses and you probably aren't even aware of it. I agree with mattdee1. This is probably just one of those...

Closed Transfer issues @ low pressure

I get clogged poppets when doing a closed transfer. Last time, I disconnected the gas out to fermenter connection and connected a co2 tank and blew the clog back up into the fermenter. Then reconnected the gas out to fermenter connection and continued. I also have a SS mesh over the dip tube...

    Cold crashing suck back solutions

I was having oxygen issues in everything and nothing was working so I decided to just stop cold crashing, at least in the FV. I (closed) transfer to the keg when fermentation appears done or close then hook up a blow off to the gas out at fermentation temps for a few more days to make sure it's...

    Your First Batch Stories

You may have over carbed if you didn't relieve the pressure in the keg before moving down from 30 to serving pressure. Also, 6th of line seems kind of short. I think I use 10 ft.

Pitching and bottom-up transfert to fermenter

Seems like you are overthinking it. I'm not sure what you mean by a tee connection, but if your kettle has a ball valve and you can drain it into the fermenter with gravity, then do it. It's just easier than lifting and dumping. It really doesn't have anything to do with contamination...

    Winter Brew Day

Brewing itself in the cold doesn't bother me. It's the cleanup after. Can't help but to get wet cleaning and rinsing everything and I'm already tired and want a hot shower by time the yeast is pitched.

What was your biggest mess up when doing a homebrew??

I was making a big starter for a lager plus some extra to save for later, so the starter was around a gallon in a 5L flask. I was boiling the wort on the stove in the flask. I heard a cracking sound and knew exactly what was happening immediately. Tried to grab the flask off the stove to put...

    Vorlauf or no vorlauf?

For people who use a pump to recirculate... I use a Chugger pump and I've read that if you throttle down, it should be done in the pump's output, not the input. Wouldn't the pump trying to pull the liquid through the grains be like throttling it down? Is this a concern or do you use a...

    Crap kids say

When my daughter was still in diapers and we were trying to start potty training, she went behind the chair which is wear she would go to poop in her diaper. I said "Emma, if you need to poop you need to go sit on the potty". She said, "Ok Daddy, right after I'm done pooping!"
