whats your favorite style/type of beer...

I tend towards the more malty beers... That being said "Time of Year" really dictates what's aleing me. Nothing better than a summer heffenwiezen after a day of baling hay in July... or a pumkin ale after spitting wood in October/November... or a nice bottle of Long Trail Hibernator tonight...

    Critters in basement

Have you ever stopped to think about what rats do for fun? Sure they crawl around and scurry, yeah they're always on the run but a rat sure likes a good time just like you and me I'll prove it with a tale about a rat-infested brewery It started with a little lad named Vermin McCann who...

Gruit ales-- Good, Bad or a New Frontier?

LOL to DocRobert... I guess I am a couple of years late to the party. I'll keep ya posted. I do read that the secret is in the aging. I'm thinking of a nice Scottish Red base and going from there. Maybe cask condition in an oak barrel and tap it around our annual Antique Tractor Plow Day in...

    Turkey Fryer Deals

Just an FYI to all you home brewers... I just scored a turkey fryer propane set-up from Lowes for $15.00. The set was on clearance marked down from $59.99. The aluminum pot is kind of thin but the burner worked like a charm. I do have to modify it and remove the 150minute gas timer. But...

    Struck in a bottle

True... Time is on my side... (Yes it is) And Santa brought another carboy and a GC to the local HB Emporium so as the first book on homebrewing I ever read says "Relax, have a homebrew!" I think I will wait it out and sample this sometime around Valentine's Day... Cranberry Chocolate Stout...

    Struck in a bottle

So here's my quandry... 2 weeks ago I bottled a nice Chocolate Cranberry Porter, however after sampling yesterday(18 days after bottling) ZERO carbonation... only a faint "fzzzt" upon opening the bottle. I reviewed my notes and I think I only used ~1/4 cup priming sugar instead of 3/4 cup...
