    Stupidist things ever done.

I pushed the rubber grommet through the lid of my fermentor straight into the beer when installing the airlock. I couldn't fish it out with a spoon so I starsan'd my entire arm and picked it out. It was my first batch ever and the only one that's undrinkable. I still have it bottled and try it...

Trying to get a pipeline going...

Go for it, plastic buckets are cheap. My wife isn't a beer drinker but at least she's supportive of my hobby. She bought me a beginners kit which got the ball rolling.

Trying to get a pipeline going...

Yeah, we just built a new house with a big basement so I have a lot more room. Hopefully I can keep these fermentors full. I'm still doing extract brews so it doesn't take up as much time. I'm gonna start messing around with AG soon so we'll see how it goes.

    Home brew dice

Hmm, never had a Pumpkin IPA before. That could be interesting.

Trying to get a pipeline going...

Currently have 4 fermenting right now, a Pottsville Pale Ale, American Lite Summer Ale, Blitzkrieg Hop IPA, and a Double IPA. Still have 2 empty fermentors I plan on filling this week. Hopefully I won't have to buy beer for a while.

    Interesting experience using amylase enzyme...

Sounds good, should be even better this winter.

    I'm an idiot...

Don't worry about it. Just buy another pack of priming sugar to use at bottling time. All you did was increase the ABV slightly.

    Noob needs better instructions

Do a search for The Joy of Homebrewing by Charlie Papazian. I read that before I started anything.

Not the typical first timers question

No it's not. It's very easy for the boil to flare up when you add the hops. I have a 9 gallon pot and it's not excessive. I use a propane burner outdoors though. 3 gallons is the most my stove would boil.

    Full boil with extract

    Sounds tasty!!

Not the typical first timers question

Unfortunately, your brew pot is too small for all grain 5 gallon batches. You need to started with 6.5 gallons at the beginning.

Not the typical first timers question

Sorry, I should have read the whole thread. I didn't see he apologized. Maybe he should lock his keyboard up next time he drinks. :D

Late Extract Addition - Blonde Ale

Thanks for the response, it makes sense. I do have a personal experience which is why I thought it had to do with the volume of the boil. Keep in mind I'm still a noob doing extract brews. I've done a LHBS APA kit twice, the first time I added all the extract at the beginning. The second...

Not the typical first timers question

You need lots of steel wool to clean your plastic fermentor. Also, don't worry about sanitation, it's way overrated. Regular dish soap works fine, don't bother rinsing it either. :mug:

Late Extract Addition - Blonde Ale

Aren't they just displacing the volume that the extract takes up? If you add your extract and then top off to your boil volume, you would have less water and less hop utilization. If you fill to your boil volume first, then add the extract, I don't understand how adding some of the extract...

    yuengling clone from AHS

I just made up a recipe and brewed it. I call it the Pottsville Pale Ale. I'll let you know how it turns out and if it's anything close to Yeungling. They use Cluster and Cascade hops in Premium and Lager. I figure they're around 20 IBU's. I live near Pottsville so I get to sample a lot of...

    Interesting experience using amylase enzyme...

Yeah, this stuff is great. I've used it in two summer beers. One was a 1.028 American Lite Ale. It finished at 1.008, I racked to a secondary on top of a tsp of AE and it dropped it to 1.000.

Any update? How did this turn out?

    How to brew cheap beer:

I've used Safale US-05 for most of my batches. At $3 a pack it's hard to beat. My recent double IPA I just pitched 2 packs.
