    Dogfish Head Reduces Distribution

To be clear, I don't think that's what Sam is doing or thinking, I'm just saying his reputation has outgrown him.

    Dogfish Head Reduces Distribution

I agree with you to a point- I think there will always be a market for hop-bombs and imperials though. It also depends on the beer culture of the area too- in Portland, I can easily see a regular 6 beer, two seasonal, 4-8 others tap list. I doubt it will ever get to the point over here where...

    Dogfish Head Reduces Distribution

DFH makes some great beers, but they are getting a little over hyped imo. Same thing with Russian River. At this point, Sam could bottle horse piss, talk about it on the discovery channel for 15 minutes, and still sell it like hot cakes.

Need input on my butter beer recipe

I must be missing something here, but how do you not have bottle bombs? You should still have some active yeast in those bottles, so unless you keep them all chilled.... Any beer I'm afraid of exploding I put in picnic coolers with the lid closed. If they seem fine in a month, then I'll...

    Obama is a homebrewer

I definitely want to try the recipe when it is released. And I think he's been doing a good job! Much better than Regan & Bush II.

    dandelion lambic

You could probably use a food dehydrator to get the dandelions dry- I just added all my stuff to the boiling wort.

    dandelion lambic

It could be really interesting... I've brewed an ESB with the whole plant, (roots and everything) and that was 1-2 hours of weeding the lawn for 3 gallons. You'd better have acres of dandelions available to you. New Belgium made some kind of dandelion beer in their lips of faith series.

    cotton yarn in mash tun?

Yeah, I'm going to get a screen. I've made a mild and a berliner weiss with really low grain bills, that's where I had trouble. The belgian dubbel I made came out just fine, but there was enough grain to keep it in place.

    NB bourbon barrel...stalled?

When I did the kit (I've only done it once) mine stalled at 1.030, and I couldn't ever get it past 1.024 by repitching lower. It still tasted pretty good though... Have you added the bourbon yet?

    cotton yarn in mash tun?

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, it's a stainless steel braid- it was a washing machine hose that I cut the ends off of. My mashtun is a converted igloo cooler.

    All-Brett still going

I recently had a beer with brett that was considered "green" but it was still delicious. In an interview, the brewer said: I was also intrigued by a cryptic line in Chris White’s book Yeast: The Practical Guide to Beer Fermentation: “the average [Brett] strain can [develop the...

    cotton yarn in mash tun?

Just did my 3rd AG batch last weekend, and I realized that I'm getting terrible efficiency (like in the 40's) on the smaller beers I've been brewing, because my stainless steel braid keeps floating up in the mash tun. I'd like to tie the braid down with yarn or fishing line or something, but...

    Best Beers for Oaked Flavor

Sours work well too, only problem is, once you get those bugs in there, they won't come out.

    Which 4 types of beer

Hey, best of luck to ya! I would look for easy drinking "crossover" beers- you mention yeungling, but definitely look at your wheat/weiss beers, and maybe some kind of amber lager/hybrid lager? It also depends if you have the resources to lager I guess... Definitely put up a sign that...

    Which 4 types of beer

me: 1. Seasonal anything 2. A sour- berliner weiss/flander's red 3. porter 4. a malty session beer like an Irish Red, Southern English Brown, Alt, Mild For joe public: 1. Some kind of American Pale or IPA 2. Wheat Beer like a Hef or a Kolsch 3. A stout or porter 4. seasonal...

    Portland, OR

I was hoping someone else would mention HBX. I live across the river in Vancouver, so we often go to Homebrew Exchange. The folks there are really nice, and occasionally they have homebrew exchange parties where you can sample other people's creations. (I think they stopped temporarily, till...

    NorthernBrewer Bourbon Barrel Porter

I made this in January 10, and it's still drinking decently. I did have a high final gravity though- I think because dark LME has some unfermentables in it.

Wyeast 3191 Berliner Weisse no activity

If it's not sour enough, you can always add some food grade lactic acid. You won't get anymore character out of the beer though, it just increases sourness.

You know what? That's great marketing on Sam's part. I have to admit, I really want to try it...

Allow smoking in our new pub?

As a non-smoker, smoking never kept me from going to a place to try their beer or hang out with friends. It would and did keep me from wanting to go back. Good luck convincing one of your partners to go smoke free. If you want it somewhat upscale though, I'd definitely go smoke free. Or for...
