    Community Brew School

Headed out to Community Brewery this Saturday with the little lady and a group of people and noticed that since its the last Saturday of the month they are having brew school before the tour. Has anyone attended this? I'm kind of curious if this is worth the time especially since I'll have to...

    Exploding Bottles

As far as why it didn't turn out to well, it just had an odd taste, not really infected just different (hard to explain). I had a friend that used to home brew taste one and he said it was fine it just didn't have much alcohol content. So, yes that would indicate that it was bottled too soon...

Force Required to Cap a Bottle?

I have found that its not about force. If your having to use too much force crimping the cap it isn't seated well and you are going to break the neck because you are crimping it on the ridge (lack of better term) than under it. If you get the cap seated well by applying a decent amount of...

    Exploding Bottles

I brewed and bottled a batch of bock back in November that didn't turn out too well. I have been slowly emptying and washing the bottles over time, even did a few a couple weeks ago, nothing unusual about them other than they just don't taste right. Last night I found a case of them in my...

    Drip Tray

I have a large drip tray on order but what I am using now are basically plastic parts bins. They have a little lip so they can be hung on a plastic strip. They came with the kegerator which I purchased used but I think they can be found at Harbor Freight.

    Star San Warning

Hello, I'm a new brewer and after a failed first batch I just pulled out my supplies to give it another go. I had put all of my brewing supplies in a covered plastic tub for safe keeping. Unfortunately I also put my bottle of star-san in the tub. The bottled turned over and most of it leaked...

CO2 Refills in the Lewisville/Flower Mound Area?

I broke down and just swapped my tank at Airgas in Lewisville. I had a now resolved CO2 leak that drained my tank and I didn't feel like driving out to 3L. The tank they gave me was an aluminum tank just like what I had but a little more beat up, no telling what I will end up with next time...

CO2 Refills in the Lewisville/Flower Mound Area?

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to infer that they had bad customer service or were rude in any way, they were not. Filling CO2 bottles is simply not a fun thing to do, if done properly, which they did by filling and emptying the bottle to get it cold enough to accept close to its maximum capacity and...

CO2 Refills in the Lewisville/Flower Mound Area?

Another nod to 3L Welding in Denton although I didn't get the feeling that it was their favorite thing to do. I did stop by Airgas and the gentleman up front told me there was a good chance they could swap my aluminum tank for another one just as nice or nicer. My question didn't phase him so...

    Full Size Fridge "keg shelf"

Thank you, that is pretty much what I was looking for. I'm not sure if I trust the structural integrity of my fridge enough to do it like the one on the right though.

    Full Size Fridge "keg shelf"

Hello, I have a full size fridge that has been converted to a kegerator and it currently has 2 faucets. Due to the compressor hump it will only hold 2 corny size kegs. It is large enough to hold 4 kegs and a CO2 bottle (I'm pretty sure) if I build it up so its all one level. I know this...

Full Size Fridge Kegerator Temp Control

Thanks for the feedback. After a few days things have gotten a little better I guess as everything inside has cooled to temp but the fridge still run quite a bit. I have about decided that it isn't so much a cooling issue as an insulation issue. I can't detect any air leaks but this was a...

Full Size Fridge Kegerator Temp Control

Hello, I just purchased a full size fridge that has been converted to a kegerator. It was already done, I picked it up for $150 including a new 10# stainless CO2 tank and nice dual guage regulator, I figured it was a steal. The fridge itself is your basic older model Fridgidaire freezer on top...

    Removing labels from beer bottles.

Greatly depends on the type of label and glue used. After removing the labels from about 3 cases worth of bottles of varying brands I found that different glues and label types had to be treated differently. First off prepare some b-bright or oxy-clean and hot water. Unlike some I will...

Where to buy keg beer DFW, TX

I answered my own question and will post here for those who might have the same question locally. Lone Star Beverages in Carrollton keeps a large selection of 1/6 barrel kegs in stock including many local breweries. They charge a very reasonable $30 deposit for all but Revolver kegs which are...

Where to buy keg beer DFW, TX

I've searched CL and the going rate for keg shells is $50 and all I have seen are the half barrel sizes. I figured for that if I can find a place that that only charged $50 for a deposit then I might as well do that and save myself the frustration of dealing with CL sellers. If its less than...

Where to buy keg beer DFW, TX

Hello, I just started my homebrew hobby and after bottling my first batch of beer I decided I really needed to keg or this hobby is doomed for me. I just purchased a kegerator, its a full size fridge with 2 taps. My current plan is to have 1 tap with my homebrewed stuff and another tap with...

    New from DFW

You were right the guys at Homebrew HQ were extremely helpful. Not sure exactly who I talked to but he spent about 30 minutes making sure I had everything I needed for my first batch and nothing I didn't really need yet. I first went to The Winemakers Toy Store / Dallas Homebrew in...

    Blueberry ale

Thanks for the clarification. Not criticizing by any means, just trying to learn. Heck I haven't brewed my first batch yet so I certainly don't know the chemistry.

    Blueberry ale

Stupid n00b question...fermenting fruit yields moonshine or brandy which can have very high alcohol content. Wouldn't the added sugar from 10 lbs of blueberries yield a beer with a very high alcohol content?
