Looking For Motivation To Start Again..

I tried a few 1 gallon all grain BIAB. They are tough. they were not kits. My lhbs put them together for me. Your grain amounts have to be almost exact along with hop additions. Try a 2.5 or 5 gallon batch and see what happens. My beer immediately got better. Definately go to a hombrew club...

How big or small a mash tun?

I went straight to 70 qt Coleman extreme. I can do whatever I want from there. My last batch was 14 lb grain and 5 gals water. It stayed at 148 for an hour and I batch sparge so bed depth is not an issue.

    Mash tun manifold help

I wouldn't use any kind of tape. The chemicals in the glue will leach into the mash. I made mine a tight fit so the tun basically keeps it together.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

^nice. I'm doing a hoptimum clone today or tomorrow. Second brew on my new DIY stand. Just be dialed in a little better this time.

How have your thoughts on craft beer evolved?

I'm in the same boat right now. My favorite beer this time two years ago was new castle brown. This time last year a nut brown that I brewed. Now it's hop bomb IPA's. I like a beer that bites back right now. I've only brewed 3 all grains and the one tomorrow will be a Hoptimum clone. However. I...

Does anyone else think Sam Adam's beer sucks

I don't like Boston lager but they do have some good beers. Their octoberfest this year is good and the Baltic IPA is tasty too.

A Couple noob water volume ?

Ok. Ill go on that this time and see what happens. It'll be beer either way! Thanks guys. I know this stuff gets beat to death.

A Couple noob water volume ?

It sure didn't seem like much. Ill make sure this time. The recipe per beer smith calls for 25 qts water with a 13 lb grain bill. I get 19 qts at 1.5 per lb.

A Couple noob water volume ?

That's what I was thinking but my mash volume is damn near what my boil volume should be. I'm thinking mash with 4 gallons and batch sparge with 2 gallons OR build a fly sparge manifold and go that route with 2 gallons.

A Couple noob water volume ?

Ok. My second all grain is coming up. Cut up keg HLT , 70 qt Coleman mash tun keggle bk. I used way to much water on my first batch and efficiency was terrible. My next beer is an IPA. It calls for mashing in with 6 gallons then batch sparging with 4 gallons. This is a 5 gal recipe btw. My boil...

Doing my first brew right now!

Looking good. My IPA had tons of cold break. It was biab too. Make sure when you rack just keep the cane in the clear beer And it will be good to go. I don't mind hazy but my last couple of bottles that got a lot of sediment in them tasted wheaty.

    Low OG and finishing fg?

Thanks guys. Gonna let it ride.

    Low OG and finishing fg?

So, leave it until in finishes in the primary? Rack to secondary to get it off the yeast cake, or cold crash it at 1.008 and keg it. I'm a noob by the way. This is my first AG batch.

    Low OG and finishing fg?

Ok. Brewed a saison a two weeks ago saturday. It's been bubbling nicely. Smells good. Looks good. My projected Pre boil gravity should have been 1060. It was 1040. I mashed with WAY to much water and didn't sparge much. I could have gone for a longer boil but I added my hops at 60 minutes and...

We want YOUR feedback on our new site, HBT! -- Kegconnection

The site is awesome. I've been trying to piece together a hose kit and corny keg for a week now and finally a way to get pre built lines and a keg but no regulator and bottle. I already have that stuff. Going to place an order today. Thanks

    dexter finale?

Agreed, I'm a huge Dexter fan but it was disappointing. I knew deb would die but dex pissed me off with leaving the kid with Hannah. I hate the artsy fartsy show endings. Like sopranos. Crap. Give me the damn ending I want damnit. Damn. Just damn. Back to my wee heavy in progress.
