Keep it or discard it...extra wort after sparge?

Experiment with it. Pitch a different yeast and see what types of different flavors you get. I will do that with my next batch. 10 gallons two different yeast for each 5g fermenter.

What are you drinking for NYE?

    A tripel and a quadrupel

    New mash tun

My process is while I'm bringing my strike water to temp. I'll boil a gallon of water and throw it in the tun (72qt Coleman extreme). Let it sit until my strike water is ready. DUMP THE GALLON. It's still hot but I have no idea how hot. If I want to mash at 158 I bring my water to 168 with 80...

    The Hype About Hops

I LOVE a hop monster. Like SN Hoptimum but I also like a smash or a 3% French saison. I can't taste most of my favorite DIPA's after about 3 because my pallet is blown. The awesome thing about brewing your own is you can brew an experiment and go buy what you like. Once you have brewed a few...

Are there any hops you actually dislike?

What ever the main hops in DFH 90 minute are. I love hop monsters but that beer is terrible.

Blichmann Burner vs Bayou Classic KA4

I don't have one but brewed with a friend that has one. WOW it was awesome. I'll be getting one after Christmas. Silent and very efficient. I love how it has it's own wind block. Great for garage or out door brewing. Go for it. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

    Boiling full 5g batch.

Bar keepers friend is awesome. I use it on everything. No off favors just rinse well.

    All grain/Sparging Equipment

I have a 70qt mash tun and 15 gal keggle. I use my 5 gal crawfish pot I had laying around for a liquor tank. Heat 5 gals to mash in, fill it back up with how ever much sparge water I need heat while mashing. Works pretty good for my gravity system. I'll go to a 15 gal keg when I get a pump for...

Turning a freezer into a keezer help!

https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f35/chest-freezer-specs-layouts-377518/ Check out this thread and head down to the kegging/bottling forum. Lots of builds and specs. I'm getting an 8.8 cubic foot chest freezer. Looks like it would hold 4 cornies.

CPVC Manifold or Stainless Steel Braid for rectangular Mashtun?

I built a 1/2 inch cpvc manifold for my 70qt Colman extreme. I made it fit tight so it wouldn't float. It works awesome and I can pull it apart to clean. Nice and cheap too. I can open the valve wide open after recirculating and drain the tun as fast as I want and no stuck sparge yet.

    Big Beer

I've missed my first two AG batches by 10 pts as well. 70 qt Coleman mash tun keggle BK. The first time I mashed in with way to much water and didn't sparge much. The second time I mashed in just right then didn't sparge enough again (didn't heat up enought sparge water) I've learned that going...

How do you tell a guy his beer SUCKS

I'm a new brewer. I took my first AG to the club yesterday. A French saison. It got rave reviews. I kept telling them to be honest. I made some mistakes so I know it wasn't just right. As a newby I want to be told what's off or what it should taste like. I vote honesty if he's trying to get...

How did teach a friend to brew day go?

Ours went real well. Good club turnout and lots of new foot traffic at the lhbs. Lots of new interest and maybe some new club members. Brewed a stout an IPA and an English ale.
