    Using tea bags for flavor?

For the best apricot flavor, you would want to add apricot extract at bottling to taste. That said, I like your idea of using tea. Try adding tea bags after flameout, steeping while you chill the wort. Steep according to directions on the tea. As for how much to use, that's gonna be up to...

    Boil time

make a heat shield for it. sheet metal, flashing, cement board, whatever you like. something to reflect heat back and block the wind. I use that same burner and I get 9 gal from about 150 to boiling in about 12-13 min. 60/12=5 degrees/min for 9 gal. give or take. hope that helps

    Pasteurizing

Sorry, too short. It can help improve shelf life, but if you're sanitation is tip-top it shouldn't be necessary. If you're talking about doing it for something like the guinness clone recipe (in which you intentionally sour a portion of beer, then boil/pastuerize it and add it back to the...

    Pasteurizing

Short answer; just raise the temp of whatever it is you are pastuerizing to about 165-170 and hold it there for 5-15min then cool back down. It can change the flavor profile.

    Labels on growlers...

Make the label on the 'ol computer and print it out on plain paper. Then tape it to the growler with clear 2" packing tape. Completely cover the label. It'll be waterproof, so it will survive in a wet cooler, and it peels off pretty easily and doesn't leave residue like label paper can.

    Wyeast 3944 smack-pack

I would let it ride. The packs do not need to be inflated to work. The inflation just proves that they [yeast] are still alive. You may have underpitched, but it sounds like fermentation is underway, so the yeast have already gone through lag and growth phase so you have plenty of yeast in...

    Saison Dupont

Y'all got me in the mood. I went to NB today and got the ingredients and am making it tomorrow.:mug:

    Saison Dupont

Couldn't resist. Not everyday you get to make a nucleophilic substitution joke.

    Saison Dupont

Great beer! One of my all time favorites. And way to go on the B in O-chem. Agree that it was one of the hardest classes I had. I learned to loath reaction mechanisms. Watch out for that backside attack - they aren't kidding when they say size matters . . . ouch!

    DIY Oxygenation/Aeration setup possibilities

oops, just read that it was 40 with the tank, good deal.

    DIY Oxygenation/Aeration setup possibilities

Maybe 40 is without the tanks. And Bobby is right. I'm not gonna say what I did about the left/right thread because I wouldn't exactly call it 'safe', or 'wise'. I had everything laying around, but if you were to go out and buy it, probably would end up costing the same as just buying the...

    DIY Oxygenation/Aeration setup possibilities

+1 It'll cost the same or less than an oxy kit from a LHBS, and you'll also have the oxy/mapp torch for future use. unless you have all the parts laying around and can cobble something together for about 10 bucks (for the airstone). Air, at atmospheric pressure and room temperature can...

Denny Conn's Bourbon Vanilla Imperial Porter

No need to fret. I've just split the beans, scraped the seeds, and dumped it all into the primary every time I've ever made this. And it is awesome every time. A well crafted recipe.

    Porter yeast to dough

And that bread looks mighty tasty. So good I had to come back and post about it. You should serve it with the porter. A girlfriend that will make you bread from your beer yeast? -sounds like a keeper.

    Porter yeast to dough

Way to go. Fun isn't it? I've literally scraped dried crusted yeast off my carboy that blew out through the airlock and made bread with it. Just one of the many beer / food symbioses.

    DIY Oxygenation/Aeration setup possibilities

Find an old propane torch, cut off the burner tip, buy some silicone tubing and jam it over the end you just cut off, duct tape over the air holes at the base of the torch, buy a can of oxygen from menards and attach the torch/hose thingy you just made, buy a .5-1 micron airstone from your...

    Lacto Infection - What Now?

Do you like sour beers? If so, let it ride, maybe pitch some brett. Do you not like sour beers? Rack from under, being very gentle. Like Tom said.

    Fermentation Temp Wyeast Belgian Wit

+1 to everything said so far. It's a true top cropper. All that gunk is just yeast and proteins and such. It does no harm. The stuff shooting out the airlock is almost pure yeast. You can collect it and pitch it straight into another beer (if you have one ready at the time). And for...

    Its official!! Im addicted!!!

Yep! It's like meth. Except for the teeth and hair falling out, extreme weight loss, going to jail, etc. And you know what they make you do in jail? Toss the salad. No one will ever make you toss the salad for homebrewing. Unless your wife is a dominatrix, and you have a boilover...
