    11 year old beer

My aunt gave me a couple of cans of beer that are 11 years old. It's not homebrew just commercial beer. Do you think after 11 years in a sealed can they would still be drinkable? :mug:

    odd smell

Yeah same thing happaned to me. It's normal. The smell disappears after a few days. Now my beer smells awesome :)

    Isinglass

My home brewing book says that the isinglass has an opposite charge to the yeast so they stick together and sink to the bottom. Also it's a lager so I have it at pretty cold temperatures at the moment. Should be crystal clear when i bottle it :)

    Isinglass

Just racked my beer to secondary and added some isinglass (finings) in there aswell. Since isinglass clears the beer by making all the yeast settle to the bottom of the fermenter, do you think after 2 weeks in the secondary there will be some yeast left over to carbonate the beer? I can already...

    Ready for secondary?

Just took a reading from my lager. It's down to about 1.015 at the moment. Is it ok to rack to the secondary fermenter now? The OG started at 1.035.

    Home brew software

Does anybody know of any good free home brew computer software to keep track of all my brews. I've had a look around the internet but they all cost too much and I don't really have that kind of money :o Any there any freeware ones available? Thanks, Will

    Holding Times

You can't leave it in the primary for too long. Once there is no more sugar for the yeast to consume, they start eating themselves and gives the beer off flavours.

    Stuck fermentation?

I'm using saflager w-34/70 yeast and I'm fermenting it within the recommended temperature. I only used a can of extract and 1kg of brew sugar. I checked it today and it's still the same reading so I guess i'll have to add more yeast. What do I do to make a starter? Like what does that involve...

    Stuck fermentation?

Well my brew seems to be one problem after another. Now I think i have a stuck fermentation. It's been at 1.020 for a few days now (i'm positive this isn't the end since the OG was 1.035) My home brew book said to mix up the yeast cake from the bottom into the beer and it should wake it up. If...

    Rotten eggs

Oh sweet jesus thankyou!!! That's what I needed to hear :) I'll sleep well tonight. Cheers

    Rotten eggs

OK I went to check on my beer before and it smells like rotten eggs. I looked in my homebrew book and it says that it's a natural smell produced by lagers and should go away eventually. Phew...... I hope it does because I don't want a 2nd batch in a row ruined. Has anybody else experienced this...

    Ummmmmm........ what?

Haha, you mean the fermenter? It's just a coopers brand fermenter. I'm pretty sure you get those in the US don't you?

    What yeast should I use?

Check some of the websites of yeast producers. They usually describe what styles of beer they suit and the flavours they bring out. Since it's a scotch ale i'd probably use a strain of munton's ale yeast since they're designed for british styled ales.

    Ummmmmm........ what?

I didn't open the fermenter. It just has a clear lid. Thanks for the replies aswell. Hopefully both races start to get along now :)

    Ummmmmm........ what?

I got home from work today and my krausen has started a race war. Sugar fueled violence has commenced in the country of Fermentania and the krausen has divided itself between two sides of the country in an apparent 'all out war'. I don't get it. One side is white and the other side it brown. I...

    Is my yeast ok?

OK fermentation still hasn't started so I put in some spare yeast. Except the spare yeast is just some generic brand, not the original Saflager yeast I put in at the start. Once the spare yeast starts fermenting do you think it will make the Saflager yeast kick in? It's just that I'd rather...

    Is my yeast ok?

After 9 hours I still cant see any sign of fermentation :( I'm getting worried now. I hope I havent spoiled another brew.

    Aeration

Damn. After I took my wort off the stove today I put it in a sink of cold water and stirred it around a bit to cool it down. It wasnt until after I did this that I realised not to aerate hot wort :( I'm guessing this was a bad move? I dunno. I didnt like shake it around, I just stirred it. Do...

    Total N00b!

It depends on what country you're in though. I'm 20 but I live in Australia where the legal drinking age is 18 so i'm overage. But if I lived in the USA I would be underage since the legal drinking age is 21. So there may be a lot of young brewers here but not all of them should be considered...
