    Bottler Broke Mid Bottling

just don't press down too hard. I think that might have been my mistake...I don't know. It doesn't take too much force on your side to push the cap on.

    First time using actual hops

thanks for the tips....for the time I'll just throw the hops in and see what turns out. I'll just have to be more careful when racking to the bottling bucket later I guess cheers! :mug:

    First time using actual hops

I've got the Bavarian Wheat kit coming from Midwest Supplies. It comes with grain and a grain bag...and 2 oz. of hops. The directions suggest putting them in a nylon boiling bag, but would I be able to just use the reuse the grain bag after steeping the grains for the hops? My other thought was...

    Bottler Broke Mid Bottling

I'm just a newb at this too, so maybe someone else can confirm...but I would assume so as long as you cleaned and sanitized everything. I've heard of people using them before. You'll just have to pop it open on a day you are ready to drink 2L of beer ;) I tried everything to fix my capper when...

    Bottler Broke Mid Bottling

happened to me on my very first brew...and on the very first bottle. I tested the capper to make sure I knew how to use it, and then when I filled up my first bottle and went to cap it the thing snapped. It was one of those Red Barron wing cappers....is that what you had? I ended up calling up a...

Small Leak in Primary Ferm. Spigot

go get a bucket that doesn't have a spigot. When I got my kit it came with a spigot too...and I soon realized that anything that might bump the spigot would cause it to come loose enough to start a leak.

i have a question about my yeast

I'm just a newb also, but... I think probably what you were reading (or assuming) was the yeast packet needed to be at room temperature for 3 hours before you pitched. That way if you had it in the fridge, it wakes up a bit before pitching. just guessing though :) assuming it's a dry yeast...

Second batch is on the way!

I've already been on the lookout for a cheap/free spare fridge I can put in the basement to house my 96+ bottles I'll have on hand at all times ;) And I've pretty much handed out more bottles of my first batch to people than I have even cracked open myself! thanks for the tip. I figured...

Second batch is on the way!

Just a week after opening the bottle to my first batch I've already ordered a kit for my second batch. I was just waiting to get some more bottles collected before I proceeded so that when it came to bottling time I had enough. This next kit is going to be a Bavarian Wheat from Midwest. I've...

Got my brewery name and logo

okay, yeah I might nix the red N's. It was just an idea I was playing around with. I do plan on using the space next to the picture for info on each brew. Again, I just need to come up with something creative. Thanks for the suggestions

Got my brewery name and logo

okay, I made the logo and the text bigger. I also moved the dock image a little lower. I think I like it better. I'll have to print it out and try it on a beer. I already tested the first version of the logo and it looks great on a bottle. I might have to make up a graphic for the neck too. I...

Got my brewery name and logo

Thanks for the suggestion...I'll mess around with that. I may just need to start bottling in larger bottles so I can get everything I want on there to fit!!!

Got my brewery name and logo

Okay, so I popped open my first beer last night. And fittingly I decided that day on a name and logo: Red Lab Brewery I haven't made any labels up for this first batch...but since it's not really my recipe and just the recipe that came with the kit, I can't really consider it "my beer." It's...

    My first brew day

Tried the first bottle tonight!!...and then two more bottles after that ;) Definitely not done carbonating yet. It had a decent amount of "pssss" when I opened it up, and I was presented with some bubbles and a little bit of lace....but no head and not nearly as carbonated as it probably...

What does oxygenated beer taste like?

can an oxygenated beer ever get better over time? I just recall a thread or two (or several hundred) that say to never throw a beer out...and that all beer gets better with age. Can this be true with oxygenated beer too?

An "odd" did I ruin my beer question...

a tip from another newbie who is still waiting for his first batch to carbonate.... I racked the wort from the pot to my bottling bucket...there I topped off with water before I transferred to the fermenter (not sure why I did it that way, but I thought for some reason I needed to...I won't in...
