    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

I butchered a pork shoulder in order to slice the 'Money Muscle' into pork steaks - that left me with a bunch of left over pork pieces that I sliced into pork fingers (country style ribs). I seasoned them and put them on my pellet smoker to grab some smoke: Then I took them off and put them...

    real vs fake pizza toppings

My pizza is what I guess you call 'garbage pizza' as it doesn't follow any rules at all - but everyone loves it. I guess it's fake though... 😋 Mine is: Homemade dough with a three-day cold rise in the refrigerator Homemade pizza sauce made with tomato sauce from my garden tomatoes Then topped...

What came in the mail for you today?

I went with the stainless Intertap as it seemed like a reasonable price with good reviews - of course the Perlick is the 'gold standard'. :)

What came in the mail for you today?

There are two different tap design types rear seal and forward seal. Here is an explanation from the Perlick website (although I didn't purchase the Perlick taps).

What came in the mail for you today?

I've been using one for several years now. It pumps hot wort just fine. The only issue is that it is not self-priming and you will need to find whichever way works best to get whatever you are pumping primed into it before it will pump.

What came in the mail for you today?

I bought my Edgestar twin tap kegerator 14 years ago. For the past 14 years I have been cursing those darn cheap rear seal taps that always get stuck! Today in the mail I finally got some front seal taps to eliminate that problem. :) I also went into my garage and turned a couple of wood...

    Why, just why??????

I drop mine about 5 seconds into second crack. I have gone as far as 30 seconds in, but that starts tasting like Starbucks, which I don't particularly like...

    Batch size

All grain, full volume boil, final batch size 5.4 gallons. I have a kegerator that holds two 5-gallon kegs, and two more 5-gallon kegs that I keep full and chilled for when the time comes to swap out an empty keg in the kegerator.

when do you like to do a diacetyl rest?

I keep an eye on my Tilt and ramp up when I'm a few points away from finish. A typical fermentation/temp plot from my Tilt looks something like this:

    Astrophotography - The Rosette Nebula

Here's another astro photo I just finished. This is the galaxy M101 (Pinwheel Galaxy). It is located in the constellation Ursa Major about 21 million light years from Earth. At 170000 light years in diameter, the Pinwheel Galaxy is almost twice the size of our Milky Way galaxy. It took me 14...

    Astrophotography - The Rosette Nebula

Actually, there is a ton of Ha in most nebula images, it's the most prevalent gas. That false color image is mapped as what is called the 'Hubble Palette' as that is how most Hubble pics are color mapped, also called SHO mapping. The S2 emission is mapped to the Red channel, the Ha is mapped to...

    Astrophotography - The Rosette Nebula

Actually, it means that I did not process the image in false color mapping such as the 'Hubble Pallette', but I did process the image as true color RGB (Red/Green/Blue) with a little Ha (Hydrogen Alpha) to boost the detail in the luminance channel. My astro camera is a mono (black and white)...

    Astrophotography - The Rosette Nebula

I got my telescope out again... My previous furthest image was ~9000 light years away. This time, I reached WAY out to 25 million light years away... And this isn't one of my typical nebula images it's a galaxy image. This is M51 also known as the Whirlpool Galaxy. This was very hard to image...

    Astrophotography - The Rosette Nebula

It has been a while - how about IC1396, The Elephants Trunk - it is about 2400 light years from Earth. This is a total of 18 hours of 3-minute exposures through 3 different narrow band filters, then combined into the single image.
