    Astrophotography - The Rosette Nebula

Yeah, some of the image processing these days is using AI assisted processing, but it still needs halfway decent data to work with. I'm a retired aerospace communications/navigation hardware/software guy also... I actually still have the image that was the best I could get back at that time -...

    Astrophotography - The Rosette Nebula

You bet. Just another one of my hobbies... :)

    Astrophotography - The Rosette Nebula

Thought I'd post another one... This is NGC7380, the Wizard nebula. It is located 7500 light years from Earth. The image is a narrowband integration of three filters, Hydrogen Alpha (Ha), Sulphur2 (S2), and Oxygen3 (O3). The integration of each filter image is - Ha 5 hours, S2 8 hours, O3 8...

    Storing roasted coffee

After roasting, mine go into either pint or quart canning jars with a fermentation cap so the beans can properly de-gas. I store the jars in my pantry.

    Astrophotography - The Rosette Nebula

So - I was going through some of my old data back when I first started astrophotography seven years ago. I found a folder with IC434 (Horsehead Nebula) and the NGC 2024 (Flame Nebula). This data was very bad and at the time software didn't exist to process it properly, so the end result was not...

Fermentation fridge heating for 2 fermenters

Nope, I've been using it for years and it works perfectly. Here is a Tilt report from one of my lager brews. Yep, it's just a hair dryer and the Inkbird controller.... :)

Fermentation fridge heating for 2 fermenters

The hair dryer set on low uses 470 watts of electricity. It usually only runs for a couple of minutes (if that) to achieve target temp. It's VERY cheap to run, the refrigeration costs WAY more.

Fermentation fridge heating for 2 fermenters

I have two re-purposed 75 bottle wine refrigerators that I now use as beer fermentation chambers. I went the cheap simple route. I use an Inkbird ITC-308 external temp controller to control the fridge cooling and for heat I simply tossed in a cheap $12 hair dryer.... Simple and cheap - but it...

    Astrophotography - The Rosette Nebula

No, that is not false color. I used a monochrome camera and used three separate color filters RGB (Red/Green/Blue) and then combined the mono RGB images together to create a true color RGB image.

    Astrophotography - The Rosette Nebula

Here is M31, which is the Andromeda Galaxy. Due to the focal length of my telescope, I had to shoot the left side of the galaxy then the right side and then stitch the two separate images together down the middle during processing the hundreds of images that it took to make the photo.

    Which Counterflow Chiller?

I have the Exchilerator, I have no experience with the one you have shown - but I did find out who makes it and what the specs are. The Exchilerator is 25′ of 3/8 OD x 1/4 ID copper with the spiral wrap around the copper tube. Here is the data on the one you have shown:

Spin dryer to filter finished wort

Personally, I really don't care much about how much time it takes. But my process to achieve a nice clean clear finished lager is: Make sure the boil during the Hot Break is very vigorous (without boiling over of course) before reducing the boil to a gentler boil. Add a Whirlflock tablet to the...

What I did for beer today

I think I'm the master procrastinator! 15 years ago I bought a twin-tower kegerator (Edgestar), and for the last 15 years I've complained about foam from the taps. A few days ago when both kegs kicked, I finally decided it was time to balance the lines (which were only 5' long from the factory)...

when do you like to do a diacetyl rest?

Now that you mention that, I do remember reading an 'exBEERiment' from Brulosophy outlining that procedure - but I've never tried it. https://brulosophy.com/methods/lager-method/

when do you like to do a diacetyl rest?

OK, what do you mean by 'modern lager method', and what is the fix for bottom fermentation at low temps with lager yeast?

    Lagering in the fermenter

I lager in the fermenter all the time. I go from fermentation to diacetyl rest, to lager, to cold crash all in my fermentation chamber before I transfer to keg. This takes me 8 weeks total time and my beer comes out great (at least myself and all of my friends think so).
