New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Looks killer - can we got some details? Numbers, percentages, rates, times etc? I feel like I’ve made so many iterations of my beers with so many little experiments I kind of loose track of what’s great!

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

This was the malt bill and water profile from “even sharks need water” it’s really good, light and fluffy. Different than what I usually prefer which is 30-40% oat - thick and chewy. I used all Nelson and riwaka which was interesting. It’s ALL sweet fruit - ripe honey dew melon and even banana...

Pliny the Elder American Pale Ale

I like this idea! Vinnie has been especially open about the PTE recipe lately - definately all base malt and dextrose now which I’m a big fan of for DIPA. But for a pale I’d go slightly different. I’d drop the dextrose completely and stick with a little bit of crystal like you have it, but...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Im very surprised by that beers appearance! Wheat, London ale three, and a huge DH yields very reliable haze in my experience. I guess you could have had some oats.

California Brewtools B40pro fully loaded in Central Coast CA

https://slo.craigslist.org/for/d/san-luis-obispo-brewtools-b40pro-valve/7652104555.html It hurts me to see it go, but I'm moving and gotta sell. Comes with nearly every upgrade they have to offer... which is a lot! I would of course like a local pick up deal for cash. But if some time goes...

SHOW OFF: Basement Brewery cleaning sinks

This was a great thread to read thru! I’m looking to install. Sink in my garage where I have a water heater but no access to water or sewage, so I plan to have a plumber do it. So what’s your experience - do I need a garbage disposal to clear the hop and trub debris? Or is a basic drain out...

SOLD Has all the features for incredible beer, low oxygen, pressure ferment, dry hop, yeast collection. I'm downsizing to smaller batch sizes so looking to clear up space. All excellent condition parts, clean and ready to go. So I’ve spent $1110 plus tax buying all this stuff online. Selling...

German Pils Bo Berry Pils (West Coast Pilsner)

I’m excited to give this a go. I’ll be following the instructions from the HPB homebrew comp. But I’m gonna do it as a split batch with this big mosaic/citra dry hop and the other a more traditional 2 oz of saphir

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

It’s a great method! I start with a 10 or 7 gallon keg. Start with 24-25 liters. Usually lose a liter to yeast, 3-4 liters to dry hops. I’m not convinced which is better - hops in the DH keg getting purged by fermentation (warmer) or adding the hops to the DH keg after transferring. I think...

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

Very nice! What was OG/FG? I’ve found big pitches of 34/70 to dry out nicely. If it did I would have guessed this was firmly bitter, so interesting!

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I’ll take a stab at what this thread thinks is a good go to recipe, someone put these in the wiki! This is for 6 gallons into the fermenter, 5 gallons into keg. OG 1.070 FG 1.015 All 2 Row or Pilsner for lighter color. White Wheat 10% (honorable mention for spelt) Malted oats 15-20% +/-...

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

Edit: this turned out great and well represents how I’ve adjusted this recipe since my OP. I’m still big on base malts only and at least some pils. I’ve moved toward more hot side ibus (but still pretty modest) and even lower FG, targeting 1.006-1.008. Still think a big dry hop is key, 12oz for...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

They all touched on dry hop process at the end. Pretty interesting to me nobody mentioned dropping the temperature for crashing yeast or Dry Hopping and the contact times are about four days. No rousing from monkish is pretty surprising to me!

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

When clarity is important to me and yeah it is for WCIPA and lagers, I use gelatin. I’m pretty maniacal about avoiding o2 so I use the “chino gelatin cannon” or whatever people call it. Dissolve gelatin in warm water (pre boil if you think it helps DO), add to water bottle, mix in 20mcg of k...

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

I disagree. I think 4lbs/barrel is pretty standard these days. And for us If you want 5 gallons into a keg that means a 12 oz dry hop on 6 gallons on beer. @JTtilinfinity i love your recipe plan, thats how I structure my hopping for IPAs, I just have no experience with Mackenzie But hey no...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I just follow the yeast farm recommendation - generally 1.060 and above I’ll use two packs. Sure you could get away with a bit higher, but for these beers I’m pitching into 6.5 gallons, not 5, so I don’t like to push it.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I’ve measured an Other Half DIPA ~8% (no lactose) to have a FG of 1.023 on easy dens. I was shocked how high it was but yes it definately had a crazy thick body that made for a nice effect for this kind of beer, so cheers to your huge beer with huge body! My preference is definately toward the...

Scaling American IPA to Double IPA regarding Bitterness: Focus on Absolute IBUs vs BU:GU ratio?

I agree, this is the key point. The IBU calculators use wort gravity as an input for hop utilization. If you care for math, this breaks down the different formulas...
