    Oxiclean...two years and no infections

I have been using oxyclean (and starsan) since day one and not a single infected brew. Just got a new ss brewtech kettle and it says specifically NOT TO USE OXYCLEAN. I’m a bit perturbed. Does anyone use oxyclean on ssbrewtech kettles? Don’t wanna buy pbw or really switch up my normal cleaning...

Most annoying response when you tell someone you're a homebrewer?

“Oh! When are you going to open your own brewery?” “What are you making in there? Moonshine?” “Can you make bud light?” “You know, meth is illegal” “Why would you make beer when you can buy it at the store?” “How long does it take? Oh that’s too long.”

    Oak barrel aging questions

Update- well the stout came out great. I left it in the barrel for 9 months outdoors. And where I live isn’t exactly chilly. 78-82 is the average temp. Was a bit worried, and life got in the way. Thought I left it in too long and was going to be left with an over-oaked product. But it tasted...

    High Gravity Custom eBIAB System

I just received my 20 gal ss brewtech kettle with electric setup from high gravity. Very happy with the looks of things. I’ve been busy building a solid work bench for the new setup. Reviews to soon follow

    Ratchet pulley question

I’ve been doing BIAB for a few brews now and really like it. I’ve got the ratchet pulley system from the brewbag website and it works great. Only problem is it only lifts up and down. I have no way of moving it away from the kettle to lower it into a bucket, or trash can. Any thoughts? It’s...

What is your holy Grail recipe?

I like to brew most styles but honestly I keep it brown, blonde and pale ale on the reg. Not an ipa fan. Lately it’s been a lot of kolsch and cal common. I love the hybrid lager yeast. If I had a holy grail it would be a simple lager (but I’m too impatient for most lagering) or maybe a...

Why did you choose the biab method

I see so many posts about people saying that cleaning a mash tun is so much easier than a bag. I’ve done both. The answer is they’re both easy. They both require some dumping and some spraying off. In no way is one waaay easier than the other. It’s like when people say that adding a pulley...

    Oak barrel aging questions

Update- well it’s been 8 months! The stout sat in the barrel longer than I wanted. I’ll admit, life got in the way, and I was not wanting to let the barrel sit empty. I know that I have to immediately refill the barrel with more beer to avoid it getting dried out. So I have been topping off the...

    Why doesn’t everyone BIAB?

I respect 3 vessel brewing. Some call it old school or traditional. I’ve always been an admirer from afar. I wish I had a garage and the room to do it. I simply don’t. I would never bash 3V brewers and I think it’s a really cool way to brew. For me, I like what BIAB offers and go that route...

Why did you choose the biab method

    To recirculate or not- EBIAB

Very good questions. My efficiency has been just fine using standard mash in a cooler with the occasional stir. I doubt recirculating will improve my efficiency all that much. The new system I’m buying does come with an option to recirculate. I’ll probably play with it for a few batches and end...

    Element under false bottom.

It seems like with the wide holes on that false bottom would make recirculating mash a breeze! I read a lot on here about biab guys who crush too fine and have trouble recirculating. I was worried that a brewbag plus a fine mesh false bottom would give me trouble.

    Element under false bottom.

Yeah I have a jaded immersion chiller and I was wondering if that would damage the heating element.

Why did you choose the biab method

I boil in a propane fired keggle and mash in a tall 10 gal Rubbermaid cooler. Used a braided sleeve in the cooler for 6 years or so. Had a lot of slow draining and stuck sparges, even with rice hulls. Just got sick and tired of stuck sparges. Used a brewbag in my cooler with a winch pulley...

    To recirculate or not- EBIAB

Roger that. I do own a grain mill. And i will be crushing much finer!

    High Gravity Custom eBIAB System

So happy to have found this thread! This system from high gravity is EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. I was gonna wait for ss brewtech to release their 20 gal electric BIAB system (spring 2019) but this setup looks about a grand cheaper. And you still can get the ss brewtech kettle. Got the...

    To recirculate or not- EBIAB

Wow I was literally just looking at high gravity’s website! Good call. They claim their setup does not burn bags that come into contact with the Blichmann element. Sounds good to me! I wasn’t too crazy about false bottoms, pumps, and recirculating mash. I’m a simple brewer and have made amazing...

    To recirculate or not- EBIAB

Ive read a lot on here about recirculating mash and the general consensus seems to be that recirculating your mash doesn’t always improve efficiency. It’s more related to the crush setting on your mill. I’ve always batch sparged in a 10 gal cooler and never had a problem with efficiency. In...
