Help me decide between Spike CF10 and SSBrewtech Unitank

something doesn't seem right. what is your glycol:water ratio? if you have too much glycol, you won't transfer the heat as efficiently. I'm able to crash my 14 gal Ss unitank down below 35 no problem with the penguin chiller.

    SS Brewtech Weldless Fittings

It's not a fermentation vessel, so I don't think you'd need to do a full break down after each use. Plenty of folks using keg washers may only do a periodic full break down on kegs. Having said that, I do a full break down on my kegs after each use, so whatever. Also, I've never really...

    SS Brewtech Weldless Fittings

the sample valves have a gasket on the inside of the vessel. if you over-tighten, it squishes the gasket out from under the nut. I did this once on my ss brewtech fermenter and it did leak. had to sanitize my arm, reach in and adjust the nut. Only happened the one time in 2 years.

    Rehydrating yeast

The first stir, I get clumps. I leave the spoon in and stir again 15 minutes later and it's a nice milky liquid.

    Rehydrating yeast

I always rehydrate. I believe you end up the same place, but there's a bit less lag with rehydration. Always use sterile water around 80 degrees (for ale yeast). I pitch around 70 and drop to ferm temp of 65. What was your rehydration procedure?

    Need to upgrade equipment. Advice?

Key word is "invest". I don't regret any of my big ticket cold side purchases. It hurt at the time, but now I look at what commercial beer kegs are going for at BevMo these days....these ss brewtech fermenters have long since paid for themselves, and they'll last forever.

    What's your new style obsession?

I've got 7 IPA's going right now - 3 on tap, 1 in the fridge, and 3 more fermenting - so, yeah.

    Grainfather or Robobrew owners...

I've done 2 brews on the Brewzilla 65L and so far so good. The process is similar to brewing with the Grainfather, on which I've done something like 70 brews. It is more hands-on than the GF: Manually set the temp, manually turn on some or all of the 3 heating elements, etc. And the location...

    Is this normal for S-04?

I once thought I had an air leak or I had a serious issue with my fermentation stalling, only to realize it was already over after taking a gravity reading. S-04 does not mess around.

What's your altitude? And yes, long and/or inadequate gauge extension cords absolutely should be avoided.

    Grainfather or Robobrew owners...

Just picked up a Brewzilla 65L and did a brew yesterday, with the Grainfather doing HLT duties for sparging. Did some creative fittings to use the GF counterflow chiller with the Brewzilla. Everything worked pretty well. I couldn't find an equipment profile for the Brewzilla, so I just...

    SSBrewtech “Support”

no leaking water means all the fittings and valves under the water line are good. pressure test again without liquid and see if it holds.

    SSBrewtech “Support”

my approach would be to systematically eliminate each valve as the source of the leak, starting with the PRV

    SS Brewtech Unitank carbing equipment

My first cooling system consisted of a bucket of glycol in a freezer with a pump. I could get into the low 40's while cooling a 7 gallon chronical BME. You might be able to do it if you have low ambient temps, a very large bucket of glycol and/or have the chilling coils in direct contact with...
