    Dry Hop & Oxygen Concern

Hi there. Still on my first couple of brews and I decided to make a 1 Gal DIPA that called for dry hoping. Now the top of my 1 Gal fermenter has an inch of expanded hop pellets. Questions: 1. It's time to bottle, so do I just run my mini-auto siphon through the sludge to start pulling...

    Yeast Rockets/Comets/Missiles

What are they? Is there a name for the little yeast bombs that take off from the trub and look like a comet with a tail? My 1 Gal batches seem to be still after 2 weeks except for these missiles. Is this a sign of a still active fermentation? I can't take a gravity reading since I don't...

Pliny Clone -- Pitching temp & amount

Apologies if this is the incorrect forum. I have asked Santa to bring me the Pliny clone from Northern Brewer. It was ordered with Safale US-05. Questions: 1. Should I double pitch the Safale or would 1 pack be enough? 2. My ambient basement temp is between 62 deg F -- 64 deg F. Is...

    1 Gallon -- Warming Ideas

Now that's some interesting ideas. Thanks!

    1 Gallon -- Warming Ideas

Would love to do so but mama (wife) says no. ;)

    1 Gallon -- Warming Ideas

Hey there. I've been doing more experimental 1 Gal batches recently and currently have three finishing up fermentation. That said, my ambient basement temp is around 64 deg F and the jugs report around 62 deg F. I've seen a couple of "warming devices" for 5/6 gallon carboys. Do you folks...

I am a failure and you can too....

:onestar::onestar::onestar::onestar: You, sir, are onto some next-level ****. Wow. That's thinking outside the box (no pun intended).

I am a failure and you can too....

Thank you, good sir. I guess I'll wrap them up and just give it several more weeks. I just want to try it and see how bad (hopefully good) it is. :) I made an all grain 1 gallon oatmeal stout and it is now in the bottle as well. Hopefully it will carb because it tasted amazing coming out of...

    All Grain...I'm Afraid..

It's a blast. Ya gotta do it. I'm like the village idiot and I made it through. LOADS of fun. I just can't get my d4mn bottles to carbonate. But other than that, it's awesome.

I am a failure and you can too....

Additional question, since I apparently suffer from "the dumb." The ambient temperatures here are already in the mid 50s for the high and we keep our house cool (67-68 deg). How does one go about getting the temperature of the beer up to a carbonating temp of 72 deg + ??? I hope this...

Yeah, this was a hobby to cure my ADHD without medicine. ;)

Appreciate the replies. So you fellas don't think that the SUPER KLEER will have screwed it up? Stuff works well for wine but I have no idea since this is my first beer. :)

I am a failure and you can too....

Thank you, sir. I will try that first.

I am a failure and you can too....

Well, the long-awaited drinking day for my first batch ever came and went and sadly, without a bang. My brew failed to carbonate. Conditions: None of the bottles appear carbonated I used carbonation drops I sanitized everything Bottles have been in the dark at a steady 68 deg...

    Transport during fermentation

That's good to know re: trub. I was going to rack to another container but you're suggestion will just make it easier. Less stuff to pack. I am the only brewer (and a beginner at that) so I am going to make this a teaching moment for the guys...all in the name of education and drinking...

    Transport during fermentation

I think we might go for it. 1 gallon is not that big of a deal. And I have another jug that I could rack to before we leave so as to get rid of most of the stuff. I could set it in the floorboard and keep it at 72 deg. :) As to what we are brewing? Who knows. I guess we need to figure...

    Transport during fermentation

Howdy. We have been taking an annual "guys Fall trip" for many years and this year we were considering brewing a small batch of beer (1 Gallon) to commemorate the event and have something to look forward to at a later date. I would like to brew and pitch on Day 1. We head back on Day 5. Is...

    Is my fermentation stuck?

The kit was a 1 Gal all grain. You raise a good point. I think I will look at some OGs for Oatmeal Stouts just to get a baseline. Then I'll check out beer smith.

    Is my fermentation stuck?

LOL on Bung Rocket. That's great to hear. I had some leakage on the shelf and the air lock was full of beer/wort. And you are correct, it was completely "gummed" up thus my replacement. I sent an email to BrooklynBrew about their OG. Your post makes me feel better though. :)

    Is my fermentation stuck?

Is my fermentation stuck or did I screw up? I tried a 1 gallon brew kit from BrooklynBrew and it smelled and tasted absolutely fantastic. I cooled the wort to 80 deg per instructions and pitched the yeast. I didn't take an O.G. given the small size and the expectation of no trouble...
