    AHA Membership. Why/Why Not?

The HBTalk forums folks are quite the community, I must say. Are there forum "get togethers" at these AHA conferences, etc.? Ya'll are passionate, funny and I feel like ya'll are my drunk brothers/sisters in-law. And that one guy needs a helmet. ;)

    Cold crashing

In brief, it's cooling your beer to 40 deg F or below before you bottle to encourage the remaining particles to fall out. Chilling helps this process, especially dry hopped remnants.

    AHA Membership. Why/Why Not?

Well put. It seems that you folks have made the case (at least for me) that there are more issues and concerns needing support out there than I would have imagined. I love magazines and will probably never go "digital" for those as I dig the tactile feel of holding them. And given that the...

    Favorite Hard Rootbeer Recipes

Yeah, I totally want to do a hard root beer now. Thanks for putting the bug in me. I plan to try and ferment everything, at least once. :)

Interesting point. Funny how taking away "booze" was the only amendment to be repealed.:rockin:

2 weeks secondary - dry hop for 1 or 2?

Um, I hope this is not the case because I have the NB Plinian Legacy in secondary on week 2 of dry hopping with another late addition to go. :) Anybody care to clear this up? Fact or Fiction?

Do most craft breweries use pellet hops?

I'm pretty sure that Vinnie uses unicorn tears and the blood of virgins to make his beers taste so good.:ban:

    AHA Membership. Why/Why Not?

LOL on the "apathy and all that." This is exactly where I am at with this whole debate (currently). I feel like I want to be a good steward and support "the cause" but I don't really see the cause being an issue currently or in the near future.

    AHA Membership. Why/Why Not?

Not trying to be controversial here, but I'm just curious where there is a current or recent issue with homebrewing? i.e. in what state(s)? I only ask because this, to me at least, seems to be what they are priding themselves on and I have no way to place a value on it. Does that make sense?

    AHA Membership. Why/Why Not?

Hi all. Just trying to wrap my head around the value of an AHA membership. I like their magazine and I have picked up a couple at my local shop a few times to read. However, outside of the magazine, what does a membership really get you? Is there a real need that they are filling? i.e. is...

    Secondary Fermentation for the Noob

Is there a reason to use a secondary? Sitting in the primary for up to about a month will not hurt your beer and it will clear just fine in the primary. I only secondary when there is a need...like a long aging period or dry hopping schedule.

    Oatmeal Stout

You could toast about 1/2 lb of "quick oats" for about 45 minutes to an hour in the oven at 325 F and then use them as part of your steeping grains. This should work well.

    Do I really need to

In short, NO. But I can't speak definitively like a lot of the "pros" on this forum, but I have brewed over 10 beers in the past 6 months and have never used anything but packets (sachets) of dry yeast and my beers have gone from good to great as I get more experience under my belt. Like you...
