Check list before takeoff: Plinian Legacy

I so did not know this. I thought I had excelled at brewing and now you ruined it all for me. ;) Only my second kit and the first time my OG was noticeably off. I usually do full grain 1 and 2.5 batches. You learn something new everyday.

Got a 1 gallon kit for Christmas

Couldn't agree more. ^^This post makes me happy. I have 2 finishing fermentation and 2 in the bottle.

Northern Brewer Plinian legacy - your experiences ?

Ok, here's my NB Plinian Legacy experience after today's brew session: Method = Extract Boiled in a 5 gal kettle with no boilover. I started with 3 gals of water in the kettle since this time of year it is dry as a bone up north. Glad I did this. Insane amount of hops, but fun. As others...

Check list before takeoff: Plinian Legacy

Hit my OG right on the money 1.072 Pitched at 72 deg F Unbelievable amount of hop sludge to get through post boil and the whirlpool technique was an EPIC FAIL. I'm assuming it was operator error. I will have to re-read the wiki and make sure I did it correctly. New goal for 2015 is to...

Check list before takeoff: Plinian Legacy

Thanks for the quick reply. I had to edit. It should have said bag instead of bail in my original post :)

Check list before takeoff: Plinian Legacy

I have researched and read these forums over and over but I just want to make sure I'm not forgetting something before I dive into the NB Plinian Legacy kit (extract) today. These forums have suggested: **Using fermcap during the boil **Adding hops to a bag during the boil to aid in cleanup...

Got a 1 gallon kit for Christmas

I've never used their priming sugar or recommendations myself. I just throw ye olde fizz drop in the bottle and fill 'er up. I've had no problems. Bottle bombs would indeed suck with an 8 bottle yield. :)

    Wort Chiller How To

During the boil? Whilst siphoning? Not sure I follow. :)

Got a 1 gallon kit for Christmas

I have made several of their batches and they are great. Oatmeal Stout, Porter and a Wheat beer. Great for stove-top, small-scale all grain batches. You get to mash and sparge with little room for error since the scale is so small. We love them at our house...but we love the 1 Gallon...

    Wort Chiller How To

Going to pick up a copper coil wort chiller this week. Seems like a great idea to quickly cool the wort/beer but I have a question. Once I have achieved the appropriate temperature do I remove the coil from the pot or do I siphon the beer into the carboy with the coil in place? I can...

    Hi from Australia

Welcome from the States. These forums are amazing. Lots of great folks here who are always willing to lend a hand and help teach you about brewing. Rule #1: Don't dump it. Rule #2: See Rule #1. :)

    BeerSmith or Brewer's Friend

I TOTALLY and COMPLETELY feel your pain as this drives me bonkers too. I would expect tools that are somewhat "scientific" to yield very similar results that only vary by the tiniest of degrees/decimal points, etc. I tend to ignore both of those programs now. I just started keeping my own...

Perfect. Thanks guys. I was heading to Lowes so this is what I wanted to hear. These forums are the BEST!!!!!!

    Blowoff Tubing

Howdy. I plan on brewing today or tomorrow (Christmas) and need a blowoff hose for an active and overly-hopped brew. I need OD 1 1/4" and ID 1". I have no local brew shops but there are hardware shops that have this size vinyl tubing. Question: does this tubing need to be food grade...

Why I Like Home Brew Town

I love it. This passage reads like a Choose Your Own Adventure, but set in HBT. If you choose to open the door to Yooper's Tavern, turn to page 68. If you choose to hang out and talk to the Dwarf, turn to page 97. If you are concerned that there might be a Hop Monster behind one of...

1 gallon kit under the tree

If you're having this much trouble waiting for Christmas, brewing is gonna kill you. ;) It's not for us ADHD types. Patience has been my biggest brewing hurdle so far. Hoppy Holidays

Cold Crash Bottling + Yeast ???

Thank you, madam. I cry your pardon. :) That seems to be what Google says too but I trust this forum more.

Cold Crash Bottling + Yeast ???

Hoppy Holidays, mates. ;) I just cold crashed a couple of 1 Gallon batches for the first time because there was so much dry hop pellet gunk still floating at the top. Checked on it this morning and the stuff has dropped to the bottom and the beer already looks clearer. I am concerned...
