    My other Hobby is Writing

If this post is not okay, please delete it...and I will apologize for it advance if that is the case. My other hobby...my main hobby...is writing. Fantasy writing, poetry, fantasy game design, etc. All that good stuff. If there is anyone on here who is into RPGs, please check out my work. It...

    Christmas Eve Nightcap Wheat Beer

This is a Christmas beer I decided to brew with my left over pound of wheat LME. It is a little on the hoppy side for my taste, but it is actually not too bad. It is a hop that I like, at least, and it mixes well with all the other flavors in the beer. 1 Gallon Batch 1# Wheat LME 2oz...

Thoughts on Fireside Sipper Wheat Porter

So, I made this as the recipe shows on the first post of the thread. I had cut back on the sugar at first, but gave it a quick taste while brewing and felt it still needed a bit more (for my own tastes). I left the black patent as it was, and to be honest, that could probably be cut a little...

Thoughts on Autumn Butternut Squash Beer

Well, after letting this sit longer, it has turned out pretty good. The spices could be a touch strong...cinnamon, at least. But I'm not going to complain about that. I wanted the butternut squash to come out, and it has nicely. Good and strong. And the hops are just noticeable. All in all, I...

    What are you drinking now?

Hmm...we get blue point around this area. I'll have to look for that oatmeal stout. :)

    What are you drinking now?

My own homebrewed Rabbit's Winery and Brewing "Tavern Warmer". It turned out on the sweet side, but pretty good otherwise. I've already made some changes to the recipe to turn it into a Belgian Dark Strong Ale. (This was my first brew :)

    Hot/Mulled Beer Ideas? Good Idea?

I was looking up some ideas last night about some ideas for drinking warm beer...like a mulled beer or something. Is there a certain beer that would be used for this? Certain other ingredients? I saw one that looked kind of good. It was an old ale that you warm with a few spices and then put...

    Not For Everyone...But Still Good

Sorry - a moderator can move this, if you wish - I meant to put this in the general forum.

    Not For Everyone...But Still Good

I have some hazelnut coffee wine from about a month ago. I also have some hazelnut wine (kind of a Frangelico knock-off) from a few weeks ago. I mix these together as a wonderful coffee wine drink. Tonight, with the rain and wet and nighttime and all, I decided to mix them and warm them up...

    Stupid Stupid Stupid

RM-MN - I am aware of all you have said. :) Thank you, though...it would've been helpful if I didn't. Typically, my wine doesn't take up the entire gallon fermentor just because of what I brew (either juice from bottles, or ginger beer...which I start with about 1/2 gallon and add to it over a...

Make It Special or Keep Basic

I've brewed three now - one is bottled, two I just got on this weekend. They have all been fairly simple. I am using one hop (simcoe), mainly because I know that's used in one beer I like and that's what I bought, so I'm using it since it is on hand. I'm using LME's and maybe two or three...

    Stupid Stupid Stupid

Well, the good thing is that the beer still TASTES great. :) And the wheat Porter I brewed last night is shaping up to be quite good, too, I think. To me, though...ABV is a little important. I see no reason to drink something with a simple 4% ABV. It might taste good, but so does fruit juice...

    Stupid Stupid Stupid

Let me explain that a little further, before there's questions. I fill them up to about 1-1/2 inches to 2 inches from the top, maybe 2-1/2 inches. I don't measure it...so I don't know. I fill it to where the heavy curve starts. I figured this usually gives me some good space (when I make wine...

    Stupid Stupid Stupid

LLBeanJ - that's a great idea, and I'll remember that for next time - but I have no room in the fermenter. I do one gallon batches, and I fill those suckers as much as possible...gotta get the most out of a gallon, you know. ;)

    Stupid Stupid Stupid

The good news, I suppose - I was going to have only a half pound of lme to create a small 1/2 gallon batch of something. Now I have a whole pound to create a third whole gallon batch of something. :D

    Stupid Stupid Stupid

I made my butternut squash wheat beer Saturday evening. Only Sunday evening, when I was making my Wheat Porter, did I realize that I put only 1lb of wheat LME into the squash beer. It was supposed to have 1.5lb. It is a difference of 4.96 ABV and 6.35 ABV or so. Ah well, 4.96 is still average...

Ah, okay. Sorry. I must've misread something or missed part of your post. :)

Make It Special or Keep Basic

That's what I'm sort of doing, catdaddy. I've started researching actual styles, and I'm trying to create recipes based on those, making as close as I can for what I want and like. For instance...IPA, I know those are typically very hoppy, and I'm not going to like that style exactly. But I...

    When to add pumpkin/other gourd

I actually picked up my FRESH butternut squash this evening. I am hoping to get to at least cook that tomorrow, if I don't get to brew tomorrow. I'll be cooking it on the grill with some pecan wood to the side for a little bit of smoke flavor. It'll be in the shell/skin...so no grease involved...

    Hazelnut Wine, or Frangelico knock-off

Yeah, I think that's what kahlua is - it uses rum, from what I have read. I'm curious though...maybe you can answer this for me. Some brands of coffee liquor...they say on the bottle that they use coffee liquor and rum. What exactly is that coffee liquor? Do you know? I've seen lots of cooking...
