Just cracked my first brew...... I love this hobby!

:mug: Right! This is a very rewarding hobby too. The reward being 5 gallons of alcohol each time you brew. Graff is next on my to do list. I have 13 gallons going now (a wheat beer, cider, and a apple wine (or very hard cider). What a blast. Wish I would have started this earlier.

    Do I have an infection?

Thanks, I'm new and this is the first time I've used this yeast. I've read a bunch on here about infections and I think I got paranoid.

    Fermentation Question for Apple Cider

I would bottle it if its done. I don't like the idea of storing alcohol in plastic long term. Bottling also lets you test a small sample without opening the entire batch.

    Do I have an infection?

No off flavors or smells yet. It doesn't really taste good but it doesn't taste rancid either.

    Fermentation Question for Apple Cider

I'm going to start by saying I'm not a pro by any means. Fermentation may very well be done at 9 weeks. If you get a hydrometer and take readings a few days apart you will know for sure if the fermenting is finished. A gravity reading near 1.000 means that most of the fermentable sugar is gone...

    Do I have an infection?

So I have this rash all over my... wait wrong forum. I'm working on my second batch of cider. It's a 5 gallon from store bought juice with some notty yeast with only a little cinnamon added. I left it in primary for 2 weeks and racked last night. This morning I noticed several little...

    Glass Fragmentation Grenades

Yeah, it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. It is much more like an apple wine than a cider though. A single bottle gives me a buzz and more than one... well some might consider that excess.

(Sniffle, sniffle) Had to dump it

My first batch made it slightly further in the process but it's now carbed to a dangerous level and doesn't taste good, I guess everyone loses their first batch.

    Glass Fragmentation Grenades

I checked another bottle today it was very very carbed. I waited for most of the bubbles to go away then checked the gravity and it was close to 1.02. So i put everything in the fridge. It doesn't taste very good and it probably isn't going to improve much in the fridge. Oh well, you can't...

    Glass Fragmentation Grenades

First post here and I'm new at the whole home brewing thing so go easy on me. I did my first batch of cider a few weeks ago. I added a bunch of sugar (mistake number 1) to cider, tossed in some cote des blanc yeast and left it in primary for about 18 days. Then I couldn't wait any longer so I...
