    You could try bottled spring water not distilled (cut back to 1 or 2 gal. batch) with no salts added, this won't be great beer but should make good beer. Have your friend doctor water or mash at his house then finish process at home, this well narrow down the problem area. Only do small...

    I haven't read all the posts, so I hope i'm not repeating this. Are you using a gram scale and is it on the gram setting? Could your water salt containers be miss labeled, these would make big differences.

    most codes require that you tie into the sewer vent system also for proper drainage. as for the water lines check out PEX tubing, no soldering. Check with a local plumber before you start it will save you a lot of headaches overall. Done right it should add to value of home.

    Hot water is nice to have but not the end of the world. I use the first running's of cooling water through my chiller into the mash tun to clean up. Most of the time I have to add cold water to put my hands in it. Good luck

    Thermometer Recommendations

    Check out Thermoworks. I use Thermopin and Time stick great products but not for the a low buget. That said I buy them again
