I have a grill with a burner on the side. Anyone ever boil on one of those? Do they provide enough heat?

Help with Hefe brew, ingredient and re-using yeast questions.

What would I get if I used plain DME and 3068 yeast? Would it be pallatable? Anyone ever brew such a concoction? Another option is to brew one batch using the wheat and another using light ME.

Help with Hefe brew, ingredient and re-using yeast questions.

I was planning on brewing two hefe's in a row. I have two main questions. 1. LHBS only had 8# of Wheat extract. I picked up 6# of regular extract. Can I make hefe's using 4# of wheat and 3# of light? What can I expect the final beer to taste like? Or should I just wait until I can go...

    Hefe FG question

I think I'm going to go directly to ottles with this one. I'm in no hurry... Give it a few more days and let it finish it's thing. It's a Hefe so I'm not so worried about clearing it up

    Primary shake

I shook my primary twice my last brew... still in the primary. I'm scared now. I guess cardboard tasting homebrew is still better than Budweiser

    Hefe FG question

I did a search, and read some obscure post, where a poster said that he was scared that the beer would ferment past his target FG and become too dry.

    Hefe FG question

My second batch, 1st with a hydrometer. OG was 1.44 on saturday, fermented like mad since saturday. slowed to a crawl yesterday, only 1/4" of Krausen left. I took a reading yesterday, 1.011. Should I rack to a secondary? give it a few more days and bottle? Should I be scared that it...

Freezing yeast in a regular freezer

I read the link on saving yeast. Seems pretty straight forward up to the part where they don't recommend using a home freezer that has a free and thaw cycle. Since this is the only freezer i have access to, I was thinking about possible solutions. The only one I came up with was putting the...

It sucks, but I only have the stove for one day out of he month.... two at most. Anywho today is the only day I can boild my wort. That said can I boil my wort, get it in the fermenter, airlock it... wait for my starter to get full krausen and pitch... if it takes 36 hours for the starter that...

Using a gallon jug for a starter

I made pitched to the started 7 hours ago. I am using 3068 Wyeast... I am getting about 3 bubles per minute, nothing too vigorous. Only about 1/8th inch of foam. I was expecting a more vigorous reaction. anything to worry about.

    steeping step temperature question

I have been perusing the recipes on that site with 5000+ recipes... anyway, some extract with grain recipes call for steeping by raising the water to certain temperatures holding and moving higher and holding etc... i.e. go 60...hold for 15 minutes, go 133 hold for 20 minuts... got to 160...

    How important is the hydrometer?

KISS isn't an acronym from this message board... It's been around for a while... KISS= keet it simple stupid or stupid simple... i forget myself sometimes.

    How important is the hydrometer?

I like your train of thought, got to assume the monks back in the day didn't have gravity readings either... they seemed to like what they produced. That said I think i'll get one, out of curiosity.

    How important is the hydrometer?

I have one brew under my belt... didn't buy a hydrometer. I'm a big fan of the KISS principle in most things in life. My only fear is that it's just one more thing to freak out about.
