    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

I love my 35l robo but am thinking of adding a 65l digiboil for double batches. I have my old Biab bag to use in it. Lots of really good beers have been made without recirculating the mash so I’m not too worried about no pump in the digiboil. And it’s not hard to add one. I’d do fancy/different...

    Omega Lutra yeast?

I agree, it’s good, very temperature tolerant but I don’t find it clean, certainly not lager like. I prefer to use 029 German ale instead. Much cleaner. Actually for a lager I prefer lager yeast fermented cold. I don’t regret trying it out though

Has anyone ever switched from 3 vessel to all-in-one?

With my robobrew I sit the grain basket on the holders at the top and use the lid upside down to hold the recirc hose in place and recirc for 10 mins or so, then let drain. It works quite well. The wort is clearer pre boil. Not that I notice much difference in final product

Has anyone ever switched from 3 vessel to all-in-one?

I much prefer electric to gas, especially in my garage

Has anyone ever switched from 3 vessel to all-in-one?

Yes and didn’t notice any difference in quality of the beer. I did save a lot of space in my garage though

    Check my Saison recipe please?

I brew mine like thehaze. I like Pils and a touch of wheat. For low gravity I don’t use dextrose just a 90 minute mash at very low temp. I also have the same IBU as gravity, or slightly higher, but use low alpha acid noble hops at 60 mins, with a dry hop. And definitely sulphate to promote...

    Clean crisp beer

Wlp 029 German ale. Crisp and clean always

    Omega Lutra yeast?

Beer is kegged. It’s nice, light fruitiness and easy drinking. Nothing outstanding but an easy drinker for sure.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Bottled a first test batch today, 4 litres of mostly apple and a little black currant juice. 5 weeks in the fermenter and crystal clear. I used champagne bottles and carbed it right up. Then went and got more juice, this time a total of 10 litres, mostly apple, some black currant and some pear.

    Omega Lutra yeast?

My 2nd attempt is a very pale pale ale and it finished in a few days at 25c. I “cold crashed” it at 15c for 48hrs and it’s fairly clear. Will keg tomorrow. I think it’s a very good fairly neutral yeast with light fruitiness

I do 4g per litre for uk ales

Late boil / “flavor” hop necessary?

I do this often, it works well, and it’s much easier to clean the robobrew, especially when I use 15% AA hops for bittering haha

Mine will be long gone by 6 months 😂

Late boil / “flavor” hop necessary?

IPA might be different but for APAs and hoppy blonde ales I only do bittering hops and dry hop. I also find yeast strain can make a difference. I like wlp029 German ale, crisp, clean and gets out of the way of the hops. I use a 30g dry hop in my blonde ales and they come through nicely.

    Omega Lutra yeast?

I did a Voss kviek mild ale which I dry hopped with dank US hops. Beautiful when young but after a few weeks in the bottle the hops faded right out. I guess that happens with any strain though

    Omega Lutra yeast?

Yeah, I got a bit carried away and wanted to try it. Stupid haha

    Omega Lutra yeast?

Got my 2nd try with lutra fermenting now. First one had promise, I liked the light fruitiness but I stupidly kegged it on day 5, so the yeastyness never went away. Kicked myself, brewing for 15+ yrs and have never kegged that early haha. Another blonde style ale, trying this one at 22c

    So..

Occasionally I really like a big dank US dry hop in my uk mild ales. Works very well, a stout would surely work nicely

Feedback on English Dark Mild Recipe?

I don’t find them light bodied at all, but again, I’m used to all my beers finishing under 1.010 and it’s how I like them. Lots of people love the high mashed high fg mild so there’s no right or wrong. I like my uk ales on nitro as well, so good !

Feedback on English Dark Mild Recipe?

Just a note, I had a book on mild ale ( classic beer styles-mild ), and most of the recipes for a lot of commercial English mild ales had fg under 1.009. Personally I love mild but I like dry beers and though I generally don’t add sugar etc, I mash for low fg and don’t use a lot of crystal. I...
