    Most embarrassing homebrewing mistakes

I was transferring wort from my BK to my fermenter in my garage. I set my BK on my work bench on top of a three ring binder. The idea was to keep trub away from my valve while on the binder. Well, I went to do something like grab the O2 wand or sanitizer and saw the BK fall 4’ from the bench...

How to dump trub out of a conical without making a mess

Great video! I think I may go with a sight glass and ball valve after my butterfly valve. The diaphragm valve looks way too expensive for my home brewery.

How to dump trub out of a conical without making a mess

I don’t dump until I am ready to transfer, but the beer seems to “cut” the hops and trub. I have only done two batches in it so I just have to work on it. I usually overbuild my starters, so the yeast harvesting isn’t the issue. I am just looking to get “cleaner” beer when transferring. The...

How to dump trub out of a conical without making a mess

Whenever I dump I get a little bit of sediment and then some beer. But when I am done transferring there is a ton of hops and it oozes out. Maybe I need to cold crash before I dump. Which I may have to wait until I get my temp control unit.

How to dump trub out of a conical without making a mess

Any suggestions? I have a Spike cf5 with a 2-inch butterfly valve and a 90 attached to the bottom. When I open the valve into a 5 gallon bucket, shiatzu sprays everywhere. I have thought about putting on a reducer, say a 2 to 1/2”. Eventually I will get the yeast brink from NorCal, but am...

    Vacuum sealing hops?

I break a pound into 5-2 oz packs and 6-1 oz packs, vacuum seal each individual pack. I used to do just one big bag, but I couldn't get the bags to seal every time due to hop material being in the way. Also, I figured i would just expose the hops to oxygen one time when I broke down the...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Same here. Seems to be a good sweet spot for me. I have been moving the amounts and time they go in, but I like to keep the total hop amount the same. Although, I bought a pound of Cascade pellets from a work buddy of mine. He gave them to me in a ziplock so I decided to brew with them as quick...

Dansville/South Western New York Group buy, anyone interested?

Do you have a source to get the grain? May be interested for the right price, but I know it may be difficult w/o a lot of ppl. The buffalo group buy usually has 10 or so and buy their grain from a HBS.

    Anyone brewing Brut IPA?

I may be the first person to stress a Kveik style yeast. I used about a tablespoon of Hothead in 5.5 gallons of 1.064 wort fermented around 84. It dropped to 1.001 and is very boozy and has some yeast bite after being in the keg for over a month. I used 7 oz of NS total and am thinking they...

Worth the risk to keep using my Fermonster?

I always leave my fermonster open with the yeast cake for a few days after transferring. I wait until I have time to clean which involves a long hot soak in PBW and a wipe with a wash cloth. No infection so far*fingers crossed *
