Taste-wise, is it too early to keg my stout?

Hi all. 15 days ago I brewed a stout with Nottingham Ale yeast. I am hosting a St. Patricks day-themed party on Sunday so this would be kegged friday night, and was wondering whether it would be ready taste-wise? I have more experience with lower ABV beers with a quicker turnaround time, but I...

Do you disassemble corny post poppets when cleaning?

Hi all. Just a follow up. Thanks for all your insights! I decided to order universal poppets for my cornies. They are working well and are a breeze to clean.

I doughed in at the wrong temperature.. Did i mess up my mash completely?

Thanks for your answer :). I think I worded my post badly. I meant that I accidentally mashed in at 68 instead of 76, when I really should have mashed in at 76 to reach 68. I have been brewing AG for 5+ years so I'm well versed with the mashing process itself, but I never pulled this stunt...

I doughed in at the wrong temperature.. Did i mess up my mash completely?

Thanks for the reply. I mashed at 68 because i also used 5% sugar in the recipe which should thin out the body a bit.

I doughed in at the wrong temperature.. Did i mess up my mash completely?

Hi HBT. I brewed a stout yesterday and everything was going great. I warmed my strike water to 68C and started doughing in. around 1/3 of the way through the malt, I realized that my temperature should have been higher (76C to be exact). So i turned up the heat and within 4-5 minutes I was at...

Do you disassemble corny post poppets when cleaning?

Thanks for your replies. I have been looking into new poppets and it seems there are two types for cornies: the ones i have and universal poppets (these would be easier to take out and clean, I assume). I read there could be some issues with universal poppets. Do you have any experiences with this?

Do you disassemble corny post poppets when cleaning?

I do have spares, but would like to save this one if possible..

Do you disassemble corny post poppets when cleaning?

So... I finally tried to remove the poppet and bent it :( I tried to correct the bend with pliers. Will this hold up once pressurized or do I need to purchase new poppets / posts? I can see why it's necessary now. There was a lot of gunk in there..

Do you disassemble corny post poppets when cleaning?

Great! Thanks a lot. Since I got my keg system built a few months ago I've been brewing like crazy compared to what I used to (thanks to HBT convincing me to build the keg setup!). I also got a Grainfather now. I have 10 gallons bubbling away right now and it will be nice to be able to properly...

Is brass for sparge water ball valve a problem?

Oh.. Alright. Thanks for the extra input and explanation. Sounds like SS is the way to go just to be sure.

Do you disassemble corny post poppets when cleaning?

Thanks for all the inputs! It seems there are a number of ways to go about this. I think I will opt for the screw driver option since I don't have a keg washer. Do you have some way not to scratch the post / poppet? Put some cloth in between screwdriver and post?

Do you disassemble corny post poppets when cleaning?

For some reason they were not attached. Here they are :)

Is brass for sparge water ball valve a problem?

Thanks for your replies, guys. I guess it's safe as long as it's just for water. Cheers!

Do you disassemble corny post poppets when cleaning?

Hi guys. I am a bit in doubt as to whether i should fully disassemble my corny posts when cleaning my keg. I'm thinking some hop gunk / yeast could be hiding but I cant seem to find a non-destructive way to take out the poppets in the posts. What do you guys do? Is it enough to pump some PBW...

Is brass for sparge water ball valve a problem?

Hi all. I read basically everywhere that i should use stainless steel for everything in my brew setup (brewing parts + keg). I have done this so far. I now want to install a ball valve in my second kettle which i will dedicate to heating sparge water. My question is whether this ball valve and...

Is my dry stout too "simple"?

Hi all. Just figured I would update the post with results. I messed up and ended up just doing a single hop addition @ 45 minutes. The beer is very drinkable and smooth. Resembles Guinness draft and I tthink it was a definite success. I used Safale S-04 for the yeast. The result is attached to...
