not that Im not capable of missing anything, but I dont remember any mention of any tubes/wands/etc. Nor did the kit I got some with any of that. I'll look again of course.

    Bottling From The Spigot?

How To Brew - Palmer The good news, hopefully, is we took it very slow. Had the bottles cocked to the side so it ran down the inside of the bottle. Just a few bubbles at the top on some of them. It was a gentle process. Tube and wand. Add to cart... It seems the RIGHT BOOK is right...

    Bottling From The Spigot?

good to know. Here's another example of why did I waste money on this particular book... Fill to 3/4" it says... Bottling bucket with spigot it says... No mention of anything else. Ahhh well. Can't do anything about it now. Though I gotta say its frustrating.

    Bottling From The Spigot?

sounds like its all just comfort and preference. Get the beer in the bottle however you like. No? A friend and I bottled our first batch last night. One of us with a bottle in one hand and the other on the spigot. Going slow to not aerate and foam up the beer, the other capping. Yeah...

    Bottling From The Spigot?

Question: What are you guys' preference when it comes time to bottle? Right from the spigot into the bottles? Or something else? And if something else, what? And why?

Question about pouring the wort into the fermenter

for my 2nd batch I used the strainer. Poured the cooled worth back and forth a few times between the boiling kettle and the fermenting bucket. Emptying the strainer of whatever it caught each time.

Batch #2... Forgot to check for airlock activity.

Batch #2... Forgot to check for airlock activity.

Until the 48hr mark. Nothing going on. Should I just leave it? Or open it up and look? And if I look, what am I looking for?

    Fermentation Temp

I was going to let it go 2 weeks in primary, then 2 weeks in secondary. (28 days) I had a discussion with Revvy and he suggested (and I went with it) to skip secondary and just do all primary. So I figured 4 weeks in primary then bottle. Can it go TOO long in primary?

    Fermentation Temp

I have my first batch, an irish red ale, in the fermenter. Its been in there for 7 days. I checked it the day after boiling and the airlock was bubbling along nicely. Since then I have looked in the closet at the bucket (havent opened it, no reason to) about every 2 days. Just to see that it...

    Racking To Secondary Question

gotcha. You just make sure they dont get in the bottles?

    Racking To Secondary Question

right now I dont even know what dry hopping is... I am (and will be for a while) in the land of extract kits with no frills. Just good generic home brewing. I will want to be more experimental and try some advanced things later. Hopefully (and it sounds like it) I can use the extra...

    Racking To Secondary Question

that sounds like something I'll be looking at down the road. Like Revvy said, I'll likely use the carboys later. When I graduate to more "advanced" things....
  17. E

    Racking To Secondary Question

the key here is I'm not going to do a secondary. And based on cost it I can get 3 fermenting buckets for the price of 1 carboy...

Chilling the wort. A few questions.

again, I figured that. but I had the sanitizer made up already for other stuff. If something is gonna be sitting out in my garage waiting to be dunked in wort it may as well be sitting in sanitizer.
