    Classic newb panic attack

A - you should be fine. The first time I did a starter I remember coming downstairs the next morning to the same thing...airlock and bung on the ground, and beer/yeast/krausen everywhere, even on the ceiling. Beer was the best I'd made to that point. B - I'm not sure about your process. Lots...

Mashed in at 164...shooting for 156, ARGHH!

That's my assessment too. Given that my strike water was 179 degrees based on my screw up, and I measured it at 179 in the Mash Tun before I doughed-in.

Mashed in at 164...shooting for 156, ARGHH!

Thanks guys, appreciate all of the feedback. It looks like the biggest impact was that I missed my pre-boil gravity by a lot...1.042 instead of 1.057. I didn't really think temp had THAT much impact on gravity but maybe there was something else at play. Normally with the same gear / process...

Mashed in at 164...shooting for 156, ARGHH!

Guys, Would appreciate any feedback or advice here. I have been missing mash in temps by 1-2 degrees, and I thought it may be because of how Beersmith calculates strike temp based on water+grain+mash tun temps. I decided to just get the strike water into the tun and measure temp there...

Another Keezer Thread - GE 7.0cf

Wondering if you could elaborate on this just a bit? Do you just put the shanks and taps right thru the side of the freezer? Can anyone post a pic? Thanks guys, really appreciate the help. Ron

    Costco danby kegerator review

Hi, thanks for putting this up. Wondering if you thought there would be enough room for 3 kegs and the Co2 tank? Ron

Kitchen Sink Pale Ale - Need some advice

Hi Folks, I have some leftover grains, hops, and even an extra WLP001 yeast from the last 3-4 batches. I intend to brew something from what I have...what do you all think of this recipe? Only thing I would have leftover after this would be another few oz's of Cascade hops, some more...

How's this deal for a first kegging system?

Just a quick update...everything arrived in great shape. First keg has already been filled....carbed, and consumed! Now I need to brew some more and test the rest. So far I'm very happy with the deal, and so glad I made the investment in kegging.

How's this deal for a first kegging system?

Thanks guys. I ended up ordering the Amazon deal since it came with the three kegs and everything else. I will report back on how it goes! thanks so much for the advice. Ron

How's this deal for a first kegging system?

Hey guys, I am going to jump into the kegging world. I really only need one right now, but this looks like a great deal. What do you think? Any other recommendations? Thanks in advance. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003R384N2/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 Ron

Calculating ABV from fruit in secondary?

Thanks. I thought about taking a reading after I racked onto the fruit, but since the pureed apricot was in the bottom of the secondary carboy when I racked, and I was advised NOT to mix/stir/etc, I figured the reading would be really far off.

Calculating ABV from fruit in secondary?

Hey Guys, Trying to figure this out, but I can't find a source. I brewed an Apricot Wheat ale recently, just bottled it. I waited until 5 days ferm in the primary before racking to a secondary on top of 5 lbs of pureed apricots. It was a 2.5G batch. It started at 1.052, and I took a...

    dish washing bottles?

I'm still refining my process because I think it's a bit over cautious and redundant. I tend to wash and store bottles, and then wash them again when I'm ready to bottle. I have been using the dishwasher after oxyclean, and it gets them SUPER clean and shiny. I always soak in Starsan right...

4.5 Gallon batch in a 5 gallon bucket?

So...uh...:) Last night I brewed batch #13. Two new pieces of equipment caused me to miss my final volume by + 1/2 gallon. My fermenter is a 5 gallon bucket, and I was targeting a 4G batch. In hindsight I should have held back on putting some of the wort into the fermenter, but I...

    Lemon zest

I did a lemon wheat beer once and added the zest of two lemons at flameout. It was a 2.5Gallon batch and the flavor was noticeable but not overpowering.

Cold crashed and partially carbed, help!

Guys, Just bottling my Black IPA tonight, and I think I screwed up. It was in the primary for 3 weeks, locked at 66 deg. I didn't take gravity readings but assumed it was done...and it's been cold crashing for 4 days. When I cold crashed, I put a SOLID stopper, not an airlock...and the...

    Dry hop time and duration?

Yeah, I hear you. I will just go ahead an bottle it and get it right next time. The great thing about making beer though, is even when it's not great, it's still beer. Ron

    Dry hop time and duration?

So what do you guys think: I have a Black IPA (started at 1.070) that has been in the primary 4 weeks today. I dry hopped 3 weeks ago. It's cold crashing right now and I was planning on bottling Monday. Should I dry hop again prior? Ron
