Looking for some AG 5gal batch equipment suggestions for an apartment

I use an 8 gallon enchilada steamer on my electric range in my apartment. I wrap it up in a few towels and a big thick jacket i have to maintain mash temp. Just buy a big grain bag and a container to put your sparge water in (I use my old 5 gal brewpot). I've found that a hand towel draped about...

Head Brewer at Odell moves to Austin

Oooo, Can't go wrong with pizza and a beer. It's a shame he'll be restricted by our stupid Beer laws. :(

    Yet Another Portable Kegerator

Spray Foam. Absolute genius. :p I have the same cooler and it's just shy of closing with a 3 gallon keg inside. Looks like I'll cut out the lid and tailor it to fit! Thanks for the idea! :mug:

what to do with 1.18 FG for coopers kit stout

It could very well be finished at 1.018. I've had a stout finish 10 points higher than it was supposed to be and had other beers finish 6-10 points lower than they should have. I'd say throw a pack of rehydrated Nottingham yeast in there to see if it starts up again. It wont hurt and its only...

Bottling in screw top aluminum bottles

Ain't nothing wrong with having a Coors Light! I like a good 'ol Bud or PBR when out and about. See this thread----> https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f14/guilty-confessions-beer-enthusiast-288170/ :fro:

    Blonde Ale Fail

I'm under the assumption that off flavors accompany this. I brewed an AHS Holiday Ale and bottled it when the gravity hit the recipe's FG. Fast forward 3 weeks and I have gushers, no off flavors. I let a sample go flat and the FG went down another 6 points, yet the beer tasted fine. I was...

cover kettle for last 15-20min of boil

I carefully drape a hand towel over my boil. The towel absorbs the condensate and helps keep the boil going. :mug:

Jester King craft brewery (Austin, TX) has some balls!

Just an update. They managed to win parts of the law suit, but still have some other hurdles to jump. Jester King Craft Brewery: No more "Beer in TX"!

all grain with an electric stove?

I just did a 6 gallon boil on my electric coil today with my first AG. I insulated my 32qt pot with aluminum foil and thin fiberglass insulation. I managed to get a vigorous boil going, but was having trouble getting it there. I came up with a simple solution! I found that a clean hand towel...

Wort boil, lid on or off?

*rezzes old thread* So I just got my hands on a 32qt pot and have been trying to get a rolling boil going on an electric range for full boils. It'll get to a rolling boil but only with the lid on! I think my solution is to sandwich a folded towel between the lid and pot and leave a small vent...

    Something new from Sam Adams?

I just had the barleywine tonight. I gotta say it's the best barleywine I've had to date. Every barleywine I've had in the past(Stone and Sierra Nevada Bigfoot to name a couple) have been so hoppy that I couldn't taste much of the maltiness. The ones I've had deserve to be called hop wines...

    South Texas Jalapeno Wheat

If you're open to the idea of steeping some grains you could always get some Mesquite smoked malt from AHS for that BBQ flavor you're looking for. :mug:

WPL 029 kolsch yeast. good for other styles?

I know that Kolsch can be used to imitate lager yeasts if you lack cooler temperature control.

    Bleaching the fermenter

I just clean and rinse mine out immediately after transferring. It won't hurt to clean it with bleach, but I don't think it really matters much. :mug:

    Something new from Sam Adams?

I had the Bock the other night. I picked up the chocolate flavor, but it wasn't as pronounced as their Chocolate Bock in the holiday pack. The chili was lacking too, but I did notice just a slight bit of heat on the back of my tongue (I love spicy food, like habenero hot, so maybe that's why I...
