Green Scum / Floaters and the paranoid brewer.

She and her husband divorced, and her husband is the one that planted them. I've been trying to get her to ask him what type of hops they are, with no luck. I didn't find out about them until pretty late this year, so next year I was planning on taking some pictures and hopefully seeing if...

Green Scum / Floaters and the paranoid brewer.

Sure enough, gave the carboy a shake, and it all fell out. You guys rule! Thanks!

    So who's brewing this weekend?

    That is just awesome!

    Q about pumpkin flavor

Thanks for the recipe and tasting report passedpawn! I'll have to give it a whirl.

    Q about pumpkin flavor

Thanks for the reply! I hope the beer continues to improve. Mine as well as yours. My pumpkin was extract, and I heard that it's kind of hard to brew all grain with pumpkin. My wife bought me a recipe book that has a all grain pumpkin recipe in it, one where you use an actual pumpkin. There's...

    Q about pumpkin flavor

I know this is kind of a blast from the past now, but how did everyone's beer turn out? If the verdict is a thumbs up, can I get the recipes / a link to the recipe? The Thunderstruck pumpkin that I made just isn't very good. It's drinkable, if you've had a few already. It's improved over time...

Green Scum / Floaters and the paranoid brewer.

Thanks to everyone that replied! My main reason for concern is that if it was a problem, I didn't want to put another batch of wort on top of it and end up with 2 bad batches. I feel a much better now! I'll have to give it a shake and see if it falls out. Revvy, thanks a bunch for your...

Green Scum / Floaters and the paranoid brewer.

At Christmas I tried a batch of beer I had made, luckily it was only a 1 gallon batch, and there was something terribly wrong with it. It tasted like water, but with a funky taste to it. I figured I must have had an infection in it. So now I’m a little paranoid, and I’m wondering if I...

what? 15 gallons from one brewday?

I'm still new AG brewing, and the Parti-gyle intrigues me too. Although, IMHO I don't know if you want to do an parti-gyle with your first batch. I've been looking at spreadsheets and other resources, but I think the next few AG batches I do, I'm going to take good gravity and volume readings...

    Bulk Malt in Denver?

I have to agree! I missed out on this one, and even if I knew about it before hand, I probably would have passed because I didn't think I had a way to mill the grain. Since that problem is solved, I'll definitely be interested in the next one.

First 10 Gallon batch going smoothly

How big are your batches? It does feel a little like work, but it's good honest work :D I am pretty wiped out by the end of the day, but I still get all excited when I think of the next brew day.

First 10 Gallon batch going smoothly

OK, all done, and I logged in 8 hours, which is pretty close to a typical brew day for me. Did some better time management with my only burner, which made up some time I needed for boiling off some water. I was going for a 10 gallon batch, and I ended up collecting 11G of wort. Looking back at...

First 10 Gallon batch going smoothly

ILOVEBEER and Coalcracker: I use my immersion chiller: I know, that's not what you mean by an immersion chiller :D I have a keggle now instead of the pot in the picture, which is a much tighter fit in the bucket, and it works pretty well. It took about an hour to bring it to pitching...

First 10 Gallon batch going smoothly

It's taking quite a bit to boil down, bet yea, it's about the same amount of work. Thanks for the well wishes! I was worried about that, but I decided to tempt fate :D

First 10 Gallon batch going smoothly

I'm doing a 10G batch of Biermuncher's Centennial Blonde, and I wanted to get it all wrapped up by early afternoon, so I got a good head start on it. I figure it's going to take a bit more time to heat and cool 10G of wort than the 5G batches I'm used to. Got up about 6:30, and was heating up...

    Bulk Malt in Denver?

I went by Rocky Mountain Brewery today to get the ingredients for a batch, and asked about the price for a 50# bag. It was like $67, which isn't great compared to the price you guys got. I mentioned the bulk buy you guys did, and one of the employees said that they don't care if you bring in...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I see what happened now, they charged me for a pound of Cascade Hops. I knew that didn't seem right :-) I'll have to correct that on Monday when they are open. That's not a bad price for a pound though.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Sweet! The next time I'm brewing during a cold snap, I'm planning on filling the clean garbage can I use with water the night before, and just park my keggle on top when it's time to chill the wort. The yeast in my starter finally woke up and started going crazy, so I'm going to do one carboy...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'm actually dissapointed that its supposed to be 50F here on Sunday, when I plan on brewing BierMuncher's Centennial Blonde. I was hoping to use some snow to help chill my keggle. That, and I think leaving the garage door open about a foot should keep me breathing oxygen, which is always a...
